Poppy Walk 2026 is in the books! It was a beautiful day for a walk to remember and honor our military veterans.

We want to give special thanks to the NLFD for all their help and also heavy work. A special thanks to Larry Hatem, Kyle Poling, and Brett Phillips for putting on their superhero capes and coming to the rescue of our DJ and one of our participants . It certainly takes a village. Thank you to all the people who participated, and we certainly look forward to seeing you again next year.

VFW Post 2806 Auxiliary finished this year’s “Stories With Soldiers” program in the NLE second grade classroom of Angela Clark and her awesome students.

Our guest reader was Marine veteran Jeff Gilkerson. Jeff read our book explaining the roles of each military branch, and then opened the floor for questions from the students! Thanks to the generosity of Elks Lodge 509 each student received a copy of the book. Our Auxiliary presented each student with a poppy, a toy soldier, and a personalized dog tag. A huge thank you to Jeff Gilkerson for his service and his participation in our program.

This program is very special to Auxiliary. We try to introduce the students to Americanism, patriotism and flag etiquette. GOD BLESS AMERICA.!🇺🇸

🇺🇸❤️”STORIES WITH SOLDIERS” 🇺🇸❤️

Our VFW Auxiliary visited the second grade classroom of Leah Shumaker at New Lexington Elementary. Our guest reader was veteran Renee Agriesti Young. Besides being a veteran, Renee explained to the students that she continues to serve the people by holding a position on the New Lexington school board.

Her job in the military was payroll, and her job now is working for the parents, students and staff of the school district. We all learned something new from the book she read describing the roles of the six military branches.

She had a captivating audience! The students loved sharing that they know a veteran or have a veteran in their family.❤️🇺🇸

🇺🇸🇺🇸” STORIES WITH SOLDIERS”🇺🇸🇺🇸

Our VFW Auxiliary made another trip to New Lexington Elementary; this time to visit the second grade classroom of Mrs. Tammy Cook. Our reader was Army veteran Tyler Crane. Tyler read the book explaining the six branches of military, and then told the students about his responsibility in the military as an infantryman and a mechanic.

Thanks to the generosity of Elks Lodge 509, each student received a copy of the book. The students were especially excited about receiving their personalized dog tags.

We will be back tomorrow for another visit ! GOD BLESS AMERICA!🇺🇸🇺🇸
