🚨🚨🚨Road Closure Alert🚨🚨🚨

Time is flying by isn't it? We can't believe it's already time for the Loyalty Day Parade! Here is the route and some information regarding road closures for this year's Loyalty Day Parade!

Road Closure Alert 📣: This Sunday, May 3, the Village hosts the Loyalty Day Parade. Rolling road closures begin at 12:30pm (closing at Cedar and Illinois Highway first, including all feeder streets south of 4th Ave). The parade kicks off at 2pm and the route begins at Cedar and Joliet highway, proceeds west on Joliet Highway to Gear Drive, and then north into the Village Commons, where the parade will conclude at the Veteran’s Memorial.
We kindly ask that all parked cars are removed from the main roads (on Prairie and East 4th Ave, and all of Joliet Highway and Gear Drive) by 12:00pm Sunday through the end of the parade. All road closures will be lifted by 3:30 PM, with roads remaining open for the remainder of the day.

For those of you wondering how our outdoor warning sirens operate. Our friends at Village of Crete Emergency Management Agency made this post explaining the system.

🌪️ Severe Weather Reminder: How Our Outdoor Warning Sirens Work 🚨

As we head into severe weather season, we want to remind residents about our outdoor warning siren system and how it helps keep the community safe.

Our sirens are connected to real-time weather alerts from the National Weather Service and can be activated quickly automatically or by emergency personnel when a tornado warning is issued for our area or if significant severe threat exits. This includes the ability to target specific locations based on the path of a storm, helping ensure timely alerts where they’re needed most.

✔️ Rapid Activation – Sirens can sound automatically or be activated by authorized emergency personnel.
✔️ Targeted Alerts – Siren activation is based on the official tornado warning area and or reported and observed conditions. If any portion of the warning polygon includes our community, all outdoor warning sirens will sound to ensure consistent notification for residents.
✔️ Real-Time Monitoring – Emergency staff can monitor and manage the system at any time.

⏱️ This system helps provide critical early warning so you can take shelter as quickly as possible.

⚠️ Remember: Outdoor warning sirens are meant to alert those who are outside. They may not be heard indoors. Once sirens stop it does not mean the threat is over, tune to local news or radio for further information.

➡️ Always have multiple ways to receive warnings:
• Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) on your phone
• NOAA Weather Radio
• Local news and weather apps

Being prepared and staying informed can make all the difference.

In regard to the storms that are going to be moving into our area this afternoon, as is usual with weather in our area, it's hard to say exactly what will happen and when. But at this point, we do have some percentage chances for damaging hail, high winds, and the possibility of a tornado cannot be ruled out at this time.

Moral of the story: be weather-aware tomorrow!

Have a way to receive weather alerts.

Know where to go during severe weather (unfortunately, your driveway doesn’t count).

New Lenox, here is our reminder to stay weather aware this time of year! Especially with increased travel this week. Due to the holiday, use caution with high gusty winds today in excess of 30 MPH.

Saturday into Sunday we are expecting winter weather to move into our area, making traveling conditions troubling. Please use caution and use these tips courtesy of the National Weather Service to help be prepared.
