Operation Northern Sweep Targets Narcotics Activity Across Multiple Counties

On April 21, 2026, the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General, in conjunction with the New Kensington Police Department, the Westmoreland County Drug Task Force, and the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office, conducted a coordinated enforcement initiative known as “Operation Northern Sweep.” The operation was additionally supported by federal partners from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Bureau of Alcohol, To***co, Fi****ms and Explosives (ATF).

This operation included the ex*****on of twenty-two arrest and bench warrants related to narcotics possession, sales, and distribution across multiple municipalities in northern Westmoreland and Allegheny Counties. In addition, saturation patrols were conducted in targeted jurisdictions to address ongoing narcotics trafficking and distribution.

As a result of the operation, numerous individuals were taken into custody and remanded to the Westmoreland, Allegheny, and Indiana County prisons on outstanding warrants.

Law enforcement officials also seized quantities of methamphetamine, co***ne, and drug paraphernalia during the course of the operation.

Operations like Northern Sweep demonstrate the effectiveness of coordinated, multi-agency enforcement efforts in combating illegal narcotics activity. By working together at the local, county, state, and federal levels, we are better equipped to protect our communities and enhance public safety.

Cooperative initiatives such as this remain a critical component in addressing the distribution of illegal drugs and improving the quality of life for residents throughout the City of New Kensington.

When evil attacks, words pale in comparison to the bravery of every Officer standing in the gap. We are hurting because what happens to one of us affects ALL of us. RIP Corporal O'Connor.

We are deeply saddened to report PSP Trooper Tim O'Connor did not survive after he was shot during a traffic stop last night. We stand ready to help his devastated wife and young daughter in any way we can.

When evil attacks, words pale in comparison to the bravery of every Officer standing in the gap. We are hurting because what happens to one of us affects ALL of us. RIP Corporal O'Connor.

🚔🐾 Exciting Announcement for the City of New Kensington Community! 🐾🚔

We are proud to announce the creation of a new 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the incredible police canines who serve our community.

Introducing the New Kensington Police Department Canine Unit Auxiliary.

Our mission is to raise funds and provide resources that directly support the K9 Unit of the New Kensington Police Department. These highly trained police dogs play a critical role in keeping our community safe through tracking, detection, and assisting officers in dangerous situations. Just like the officers they work beside, these K9s put themselves in harm’s way every day.

Through fundraising efforts, donations, and community support, the Auxiliary will help provide funding for things such as:• K9 equipment and training• Veterinary care and wellness• Protective gear for the dogs• Community demonstrations and education• Retirement support for our K9 partners

These dogs are more than working animals — they are valued partners, protectors, and members of the New Kensington police family.

We are excited to begin this journey and look forward to working with our community to support the K9s that help protect us all.

If you would like to follow our mission, support our fundraising efforts, or learn more about how you can help, please stay tuned for upcoming events and opportunities to get involved.

Together we can support the K9s who serve and protect New Kensington. 🐕🐕🐕🇺🇸
