🔥 On This Day in History – 1865 🔥

On April 24, 1865, the first fire alarm and police telegraph system was placed into service in San Francisco!

Before radios, pagers, and dispatch apps, this was cutting-edge technology—helping firefighters and police respond faster and more efficiently to emergencies across the city.

It was one of the earliest steps toward the emergency communication systems we rely on today. From telegraph keys to modern dispatch tones, the mission stays the same: getting help where it’s needed, fast. 🚒🚔

A little reminder that even in 1865, speed mattered. Some things never change.

The New Johnsonville Fire Department is proud to announce the receipt of a Wildland Firefighting Equipment Grant from the Tennessee Department of Agriculture Forestry Division.

This grant provided our department with new wildland firefighting equipment, including hose, nozzles, and hose appliances, which will enhance our ability to respond to brush and wildland fires in our area. Resources like these are critical, especially during dry conditions when fire risk is elevated.

We are extremely thankful for the continued support from the Tennessee Department of Agriculture Forestry Division and their commitment to strengthening fire departments across the state. Their investment helps ensure we are better equipped to protect our community and those who serve it.

Thank you for your support.

The New Johnsonville Fire Department was proud to host the Tennessee Commission on Fire Fighting Personnel Standards and Education for the HMA/HMO practical and written testing, marking the successful completion of Class 26-01.

Over the past several weeks, these students have put in the time, effort, and dedication required to master hazardous materials operations. Today’s testing represents more than just an exam—it reflects their commitment to safety, professionalism, and protecting the communities they serve.

We appreciate the Commission for their continued support in maintaining high training standards across the state, and we commend each student for reaching this milestone. Completing this course is no small task, and each of you should be proud of what you’ve accomplished.

NJFD is honored to play a role in training firefighters across our region and strengthening the capabilities of departments throughout Tennessee.

Congratulations to Class 26-01—job well done.

🚨 MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT FROM NEW JOHNSONVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT 🚨

The New Johnsonville Fire Department is excited to announce that we have received a substantial private donation to enhance our fire suppression capabilities in a big way.

After months of planning, NJFD will soon be taking delivery of a state-of-the-art aerial firefighting aircraft to better protect our community and surrounding areas.

✈️ This aircraft will feature:
🔥 High-capacity water/foam drop capability
🔥 Rapid response deployment from our “soon to be designated” airstrip
🔥 Advanced thermal imaging for wildfire and structure fire support

Training for select personnel to obtain pilot certifications will begin immediately, and construction of a temporary runway near the station is already under “review.”

We are proud to continue pushing forward with innovative ways to serve and protect the citizens of New Johnsonville.

…and just in case you were about to ask where we’re putting a runway…
Happy April Fools from NJFD 😄

HazMat Class 26-01 is officially in the books, and what an outstanding group it has been.

We want to extend a sincere thank you to all the departments who participated and committed their time to this training: Bold Springs Poplar Grove Fire, Dickson County Fire Rescue, Eva Fire, McEwen Fire, Morris Chapel Fire, and Sandy River Fire. The level of dedication and teamwork shown throughout this class speaks volumes about the fire service in our region.

A special thank you goes out to the NJFD Fire Fighters Association and the NJFD Fire Instructor cadre. The countless hours spent planning, instructing, and supporting this class do not go unnoticed. Their commitment to delivering high-quality training ensures that every student leaves better prepared to serve their community.

The Hazardous Materials Operations certification through the Tennessee Fire Commission is more than just a requirement. It is a critical component of firefighter safety and public protection. From recognizing hazardous materials to implementing defensive control measures, this training equips responders with the knowledge and skills needed to make informed decisions during high-risk incidents. That directly translates to safer outcomes for both our firefighters and the citizens we serve.

NJFD is honored to be a part of training firefighters in our region and helping strengthen the capabilities of departments across our communities.

We are proud of every student who completed this course and look forward to seeing the impact this training will have across all of your departments. Stay safe and keep training.

Good luck to all students challenging the Tennessee Fire Commission next weekend!

BURN BAN REMAINS IN EFFECT

Due to elevated fire risk from the drought conditions, higher than normal winds, and low humidity levels the burn ban will remain in effect for the City of New Johnsonville. We will continue to reassess conditions and when conditions improve the restrictions will be lifted. Thank you for understanding and helping us keep New Johnsonville safe!

Happy Birthday to FF Leigh Anne Hasty! 🎉🔥

We know when something needs figured out, Hasty’s already on it. Problem-solving go-getter through and through.

You’ve completed our B-Shift musketeers team, finally calming the other 2 down, and have challenged all of us to be better.

And ironic as it is… nothing you do is actually “hasty”—it’s just efficient 😎
