From Iberia Parish President, M. Larry Richard -

The Iberia Parish Government and OHSEP recently hosted an Emergency Support Functions (ESF) Seminar to strengthen our community’s disaster readiness!

What are ESFs? They are the organizational framework that groups critical resources and capabilities—such as communications, mass care, search and rescue, and transportation—into dedicated functions to ensure a rapid, coordinated response during a crisis.

By bringing together local leaders and public safety partners, we focused on refining these functions through:

- Strategic Coordination: Enhancing leadership readiness to manage severe disasters and recovery operations.

- Information Sharing: Closing gaps in situational awareness to ensure fast, accurate public updates.

- Operational Readiness: Reviewing key responsibilities so our Emergency Operations Center (EOC) runs seamlessly.

Thank you to all the dedicated personnel working hard behind the scenes to keep Iberia Parish safe and resilient!

From Iberia Parish President M. Larry Richard -

Iberia Parish remains under a Flash Flood Watch until 7 PM this evening with an isolated risk for excessive rainfall and flooding for central, south central and northwest Louisiana.

The risk today will be from isolated to scattered thunderstorms that develop mainly in the afternoon that will dissipate after sunset. These storms will have the potential to produce high rain rates in a short period of time. These high rain rates could cause flooding in areas where the ground is already saturated.

The next significant storm system looks to arrive on Wednesday and could possibly linger in the area until Friday. An upper-level disturbance will move across and interact with Gulf moisture to produce widespread thunderstorms that have the potential to produce heavy rainfall.

From Iberia Parish President M. Larry Richard -

As of 5:00 AM, weather conditions appear to be in a temporary period of reduced activity after Saturday’s rainfall, which brought an average of 1 to 3 inches of rain across much of the area. Some portions of the coastal marshes received significantly higher amounts, ranging from 4 to 9 inches.

For today (Sunday), the upper-level weather system has shifted slightly east, taking the heaviest moisture and strongest instability with it. However, there remains an isolated risk of excessive rainfall this afternoon and evening across south-central Louisiana and the Atchafalaya Basin where storms develop.

There is also a continued concern for Monday, as additional heavy rainfall falling on already saturated ground could lead to quicker runoff and localized flooding issues.

At this time, the next widespread threat for excessive rainfall and potential flooding is expected Wednesday into Thursday. Forecast details will continue to be refined over the next several days as conditions become clearer.
