💙💚 Secretary Spotlight: Kristi Mistretta of Belle Place Elementary
There may be no better way to explain what Kristi Mistretta does than to simply sit in her office for a few minutes and watch.
During her Secretary Spotlight interview, Kristi was answering questions while simultaneously juggling what seemed like at least ten other things. People came in. People went out. Questions were asked. Problems needed solving.
She never missed a beat.
After 13 years with IPSD, Kristi knows the ins and outs of her school because, at some point, just about everything comes across her desk. She is security, tech support, occasional mechanic, bookkeeper, scheduler, sometimes nurse, disciplinarian, janitor, filer, and—perhaps most importantly—unofficial therapist to students, parents, AND staff.
As Kristi puts it, “As it comes, I do it.”
And the day doesn't necessarily end when the final bell rings. Kristi also serves as Student Care Director, which means you can find her at school in the mornings and some evenings, too.
Still, with everything she handles, her favorite part of the job is simple: the kids and the relationships she builds with them. Each relationship is different, and she loves getting to know who they are, their histories, and their stories.
Kristi also credits Principal Angela Louviere as an important part of her own story. The two made the move from Dodson together, and Kristi says Ms. Louviere has taught her a great deal over the years. They know how to work together, understand one another, and make a pretty great team.
That same connection carries throughout the staff. During the interview, several staff members passed through the office—and more than a few made sure to stop and express just how much they love and appreciate Kristi.
Of course, this crew knows how to have fun, too. There are dress-up days, pep rallies, and plenty of opportunities to make memories. One particularly memorable “Under the Sea” dress-up day happened to fall on the same day as a district walkthrough. Talk about timing!
Outside of school, Kristi is an avid thrifter who loves old things and the stories that come with them.
Her advice to students is fitting for someone who can somehow keep ten plates spinning and still enjoy the day:
“Work hard and have fun. Make the best of it.”
And when asked what makes her school special, Kristi didn't point to a program or a building. She pointed to her people.
“We all get each other. We all click.”
After spending a little time in her office, it isn't difficult to see that special bond in action. 💙💚
