If you do, then you may also remember Duck's Drive Inn on Parkview Drive in the '60s and '70s. Remember the car hops who went to your cars, usually your parents' cars, and asked you what you wanted? There were no cell phones then, so you would give your parents the phone number for that outside phone. When the phone range, no one wanted to answer it! Alcoholic beverages were not sold at Duck's so
anyone who wanted to drink had a choice - go across the street to the car wash or ride around the park until you finished your drink. A girl with curlers in her hair at Duck's on a Saturday afternoon meant that she had a date that night, or she was looking for one. If you had no date for Saturday night, go to Duck's - you just might find one. This applied to both girls and guys. Remember going to Duck's after a football game? The parking lot would be packed with cars lining Parkview Drive towards the park. Football players and cheerleaders were always given a free coke and a hamburger. Remember the juke box that played your favorite record for 5 cents or 5 for a quarter? Remember hopping from car to car, visiting with friends and talking about school? NIHS or CHS or Mt. Carmel. Though you attended different schools, you became one at Duck's. There, at Duck's, you could "hang out", entertain and be entertained, and compare all things that a typical teenager cared about knowing you were in a safe environment. Do you remember Duck's?
