Given the severity of the storm forecast and the state of emergency issued by the Governor, all NYC Public Schools will BE CLOSED on Monday, February 23, 2026. There will NOT be remote instruction on this day.

Note that 13 buildings will be open as warming centers only, additional information on warming centers is shown below.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Blizzard Warning through Monday, February 23, 2026.

Snow is anticipated to arrive on Sunday, February 22 through Monday, February 23.

We are working in close communication with the Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) and NYC Emergency Management (NYC Emergency Management) throughout the weekend.

Families will be notified when schools are reopening via regular communication channels. Check https://on.nyc.gov/2UcUI6m for the latest information on school reopening plans.

13 NYCPS buildings are currently open as warming centers through Monday, February 23, including:

The Bronx: DeWitt Clinton High School, Gompers Campus, and Stevenson Campus.

Brooklyn: Midwood High School and Urban Assembly for Law and Justice

Manhattan: George Washington High School, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis High School, and Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics.

Queens: Far Rockaway High School, High School for Community Leadership, and Long Island City High School.

Staten Island: Curtis High School and New Dorp High School.

Family Welcome Centers will be closed on Monday, February 23 and will operate virtually.

New York City Public Schools buildings will be OPEN on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
 
All programs and activities will take place as scheduled.
 
The safety of our students, staff, and families as they travel to and from school is of the utmost importance.
 
We encourage you to please use caution while traveling and allow for additional travel time.
 
School dismissal will proceed as scheduled.
 
However, parents and guardians should prepare for any delays in busing and public transportation as they safely navigate their way home.

Due to inclement weather, New York City Public Schools buildings are CLOSED on Monday, January 26.

School will be in session remotely only for students scheduled to attend school on this day.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Watch through Monday, January 26.

Snow has started to accumulate and will continue through Monday afternoon on January 26.

EXCEPTION: due to the professional development day, students that attend high schools and schools that serve only grades 6-12 are not scheduled to attend school on January 26. School will not be in session remotely for those students.

ALERT: All other students – including students who are in grades 6-8 in K-8 or middle schools - are expected to participate in remote learning.

Children attending LYFE or a 3K or Pre-K program in an elementary school or Pre-K Center should participate in the remote learning experiences outlined by their program.

El alcalde Zohran Mamdani y la gobernadora Kathy Hochul anunciaron un ambicioso plan para ofrecer guardería y cuidado infantil gratuito desde los 2 años como parte de un esfuerzo mayor hacia el cuidado infantil universal en la ciudad.

Este programa, conocido como 2-Care, se implementará gradualmente, comenzando en las zonas de mayor necesidad y ampliándose en los próximos años para beneficiar a miles de familias con acceso gratuito a servicios de guardería y educación temprana.

📊 La iniciativa busca aliviar uno de los gastos más altos que enfrentan los padres en Nueva York y forma parte de un movimiento más amplio para lograr cuidado infantil accesible y universal, ampliando opciones ya existentes como el programa 3-K y pre-K. La medida ha sido recibida con entusiasmo por muchas familias que buscan estabilidad y apoyo para combinar trabajo y crianza.
