One of these ornamental or functional birdhouses could be yours for a donation to Honey Hollow. They will be on display in our nature center through Friday, June 19th.

These creative, colorful birdhouses are from the Best of the Nest competition at Peddler's Village.

A huge thank you goes to the talented creators who donated their birdhouses to us! ❤🐦

It's lunchtime, and this salamander caught a stonefly nymph.

Stonefly nymphs can only survive in clean, well-oxygenated water. Hooray for our healthy creek ecosystem!

Have you ever seen a salamander? If not, you're in luck. Pennsylvania is a hotspot for salamander biodiversity, with around 22-23 distinct species. Stop by Honey Hollow, and you're likely to see one.

Bon appétit, little salamander!

Emily is holding today's wildlife visitor to the nature center: a young milksnake. What a beauty!

We ❤ every visitor, human and wildlife alike, even inordinately determined ones like Pudge. Who remembers Pudge the Toad and his repeated attempts to move into the nature center last year? 🤚

Our mason bee house is seeing some action! 🐝🌿

The hole sealed with mud is the work of a mason bee. Female mason bees create a series of brood chambers inside a tunnel, each with pollen and nectar, before sealing it with mud to protect the larvae.

The grass-filled hole tells a different story. We're not 100% certain, but think it may be the work of a grass-carrying wasp. These solitary wasps often nest in bee houses, packing cavities with grass and plant fibers instead of mud.

They're both pollinators. One mason bee can pollinate 2,000 blossoms in a single day! The grass-carrying wasp serves as an accidental pollinator while foraging for nectar.

Join us in removing invasive plants from our trails and protecting native habitat!

No experience is necessary. Whether you can help for one day or more, we'd love to have you join us.

Please email [email protected] to let us know on which day(s) you can volunteer.

Bring your own gloves and tools, or borrow some of ours. Don't forget your hat and refillable water bottle, too.

Dates are weather permitting and will be canceled if it rains.

Let's stop the invasion, clear the trails, and give the native plants a fighting chance. We hope to see you soon!

Since 1969, our nature center has been an important part of this community’s history.

For over 50 years, we have worked together to preserve the Honey Hollow Watershed for people and wildlife. We are grateful to share our passion for conservation and stewardship with people of all ages.

Anyone can walk our trails or attend a program, but members make it all possible.

By joining today, you directly fund local conservation, get discounts on our summer camps and community programs, and preserve this sanctuary for generations to come.

Be more than a visitor: belong, protect, and leave a legacy!

We invite you to become a member today: honeyhollownaturecenter.org/become-a-member/

Lily was a young camper at Honey Hollow whose life was tragically cut short by cancer. Lily was kind, sweet, caring, and intelligent, and her memory continues to touch our community. During your visit, please take a packet of birdseed provided by Lily's family as a tribute to her life. ❤️
