Horizons at Foote is a transformational summer enrichment program for New Haven public school students at The Foote School in New Haven.

Science rules - and so does Ms. Kate! 👩🏻‍🔬 A recipient of this year's Laura Altshul Joy of Teaching Award, Ms. Kate has led our STEAM program for two summers now. She teachers every grade in the summer - which included middle school scientific cooking club this year! She's been teaching at Horizons since summer 2021, and during the year she teaches at Elm City Montessori. Ms. Kate, thank you for empowering our students to take chances, make mistakes, and get messy! 👏🏼👏🏾

Congratulations, Ms. Sasha! 👩🏾‍🏫 A recipient of this year's Laura Altshul Joy of Teaching Award, Ms. Sasha has been our 8th grade and middle school ELA teacher for three summers now. During the year she teaches first grade. Thank you, Ms. Sasha, for inspiring students of all ages to engage in reading and critical thinking - and helping them enjoy it! 🙌🏾🙌🏼

This year, we presented the Laura Altshul Joy of Teaching Award to four Horizons at Foote educators: Jayla Miller-Barnett, Korey Hunter, Sasha Fisher, and Kate Kozey. All four embody Laura's spirit by inspiring in our students a lifelong love of learning and imagination. We're grateful for their heart, dedication, and for being part of our Horizons family. 🌟

Today we're celebrating all our Horizons students with October birthdays! Londyn in 1st grade; Zuleyka in 2nd grade; Rebeca and Xinyu in 3rdgrade; Joey in 4th grade; London, Josiah, Kalese, and Sebastian in 5th grade; Skylyn and Quincy in 6th grade; Jeremiah, Shaneyka, and Vaughn in 8th grade; Shaun in 9th grade; Aaron in 10th grade; Jayla in 11th grade; Kasey, Caidence, and Joey in 12th grade; and high school graduates Amber and Elissa! Happy birthday to you all - we hope your birthday wishes come true! 🎂🎉🎈

She guides our students on seas of learning - give it up for Ms. Monifa! ⛵️ Ms. Monifa moved up with her class this summer, teaching 5th Grade B in her third summer with us. During the year she teaches kindergarten at Booker T Washington. She is also the recipient of last year's Laura Altshul Joy of Teaching Award. Thank you, Ms. Monifa, for engaging our students in creative learning! 👏🏿👏🏽

Welcome to the spotlight, Ms. Ruth! ☀️ Let's give a round of applause for Ms. Ruth, our 8th grade Teaching Assistant. During the year, she teaches K-6 at New Beginnings Family Academy. Our students love her creativity and patience. We appreciate everything you to do engage our middle schoolers in ELA, Ms. Trai! 👏🏽👏🏾

Congratulations, Rohan! 👏🏾 Today we're celebrating Rohan, a third grader at Mauro-Sheridan. His mom writes: "My heart is filled with happiness and pride! Rohan has been awarded Student of the Month AND was selected as a Student Council Member representing third grade!" We're proud of you, Rohan - we know you're Horizons STRONG in all you do. 🌟

Last week, we gathered together at STRONG Night to celebrate 12 years of Horizons at Foote and everyone who made it possible. Students, families, teachers, staff, partners, donors, Board members, volunteers - we're grateful to everyone who joined us. It was a lovely evening commemorating our teachers, Laura Altshul's legacy, and everything our Horizons students have accomplished. Together, we are Horizons STRONG! 🌟
