Parents and guardians: With summer in full swing, this is a good time to remind your teens about Indiana’s curfew law.
Under Indiana law, juveniles may not be in a public place during the following hours:
Under 15 years old:
Curfew is 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. every day.
Ages 15, 16, and 17:
Curfew is:
• After 11:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday
• Before 5:00 a.m. Monday through Friday
• 1:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday
There are legal exceptions, including certain work, school, religious, political, emergency, and parent-approved activities.
The purpose of the curfew law is to help keep young people safe, reduce late-night problems, and give officers another tool to make contact when juveniles are out during restricted hours.
Please talk with your children about where they are, who they are with, and when they are expected to be home.
Know the law. Be safe. Be accountable.
