The Foundation of the New Haven County Bar

The Foundation of the New Haven County Bar The FNHCB is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. The FNHCB provides a means for the organized bar to contribute to the New Haven County community.

The Foundation of the New Haven County Bar exists to maintain the honor and dignity of the profession of the law; to promote legal science and the administration of justice; to promote the efficiency and integrity of the judicial process; to establish and/or provide for organized entities or facilities for the furnishing of legal services to all citizens; and to apply its knowledge and experience

in the field of law to the promotion of the public good. Established in 1989 as a 501(c)(3) organization, The Foundation of the New Haven County Bar is the charitable arm of the New Haven County Bar Association. The FNHCB, in collaboration with the Bar Association, adopted the Nathan Hale School from 2004-2007 and provided volunteers and other assistance to support the students. Since 2007 the FNHCB, along with the Bar Association, has adopted LEAP (the Leadership, Education, Athletics in Partnership program in New Haven) to assist in their mission of helping children who live in high poverty neighborhoods to achieve and succeed. Since 1995, the FNHCB has donated over $105,000 to support New Haven Home Recovery’s two homeless shelters for women and children. Grants made to the NHCBA’s Public Service Committee help to provide ongoing support to the Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen and other projects. The FNHCB provided annual subscriptions to the New Haven County Bar Association, and maintains the Martha Sullivan Tribute Fund to support specific needs of the New Haven Law Library. It also manages the Thomas J. Witt Memorial Children's Book Fund, which supports the New Haven County Bar Association's long-standing annual commitment to providing local community children with books. Twice a year, FNHCB grants are awarded that impact the delivery of legal services to the public, as well as to other charitable endeavors, such as the Coordinating Council for Children in Crisis, Children in Placement, Community Mediation, and the Yale Sappern Memorial Fund.
