It is with great sadness that we share the passing of retired K9 Archie.

K9 Archie faithfully served the New Haven Police Department and our community alongside his handler, Officer Moord, before retiring in 2024. Throughout his career, Archie demonstrated unwavering loyalty, dedication, and service, leaving a lasting impact on those who had the privilege of working with him.

Since his retirement, Archie enjoyed spending time with Officer Moord and his family, living the well-earned life he deserved after years of service.
We extend our deepest condolences to Officer Moord and his family during this difficult time. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they mourn the loss of a beloved partner, family member, and friend.

Rest easy, Archie. Thank you for your service. šŸ–¤šŸ¾šŸ’™

New Haven Police to increase patrols to target seatbelt enforcement
The New Haven Police Department is partnering with the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) to urge Hoosiers to buckle up as part of the national ā€œClick It or Ticketā€ campaign, a high-visibility enforcement effort focused on increasing seatbelt use.
Beginning May 11 through May 31, 2026, officers will work overtime to ensure drivers and passengers are using their seatbelts and children are properly secured. The overtime patrols are funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) through ICJI’s Comprehensive Highway Injury Reduction Program (CHIRP).
ā€œBuckling up is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect yourself and your loved ones on the road,ā€ said Douglas Huntsinger, executive director of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. ā€œSeatbelts save lives every day, and every trip should begin with making sure everyone is secured before hitting the road.ā€
Since 2021, Indiana has seen a steady decline in fatalities among passenger vehicle occupants not wearing seatbelts. Seatbelt usage among Hoosiers has also increased, reaching 94.1% in 2025 according to the Annual Seat Belt Usage Survey conducted by Purdue University Center for Road Safety in partnership with ICJI. This rate is above the national average of 91.2% usage in 2024.
ā€œToo often, we see tragedies that could have been prevented with one simple click of a seatbelt,ā€ said Cpl. Jackson. ā€œBuckling up isn’t just the law. It’s a responsibility that helps ensure you make it home safely.ā€
Indiana law requires drivers and all passengers to buckle up. Children under age eight must be properly restrained in a federally approved child car seat or booster seat. Drivers can be cited for lack of seat belt use, but also for each unbuckled passenger under the age of 16.
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to make sure children are in the right car seat and that it is used correctly and properly installed. Resources can be found at www.nhtsa.gov/TheRightSeat. To schedule an appointment with a certified car seat safety technician at one of Indiana’s 100 fitting stations, visit on.in.gov/SafeKids.
CHIRP is supported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and administered by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. For more information about ICJI’s traffic safety programs, visit www.in.gov/cji.

Master Trooper John Grant Awarded Bronze Star Award

Indianapolis-The Indiana State Police held their annual awards and recognition ceremony in Indianapolis on Tuesday, April 21, 2026. The ceremony publicly recognized the achievements and accomplishments that too often go unrecognized. Troopers were honored for their dedication, service, bravery, and devotion to the department and the citizens of Indiana.

Indiana State Police Fort Wayne District Trooper, Master Trooper John Grant, has been awarded the Bronze Star Award for his courageous actions during a pursuit in New Haven in 2025.

On June 28, 2025, New Haven Police Department was in pursuit of a vehicle whose driver had fired multiple rounds at pursuing officers. M/Trp. Grant responded to assist fellow officers and joined in the pursuit. After his arrival in the pursuit, local agencies asked that he take the lead in the pursuit to attempt a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver on the suspect vehicle. After taking lead in the pursuit, M/Trp. Grant notified dispatch that the suspect was displaying a handgun, pointing it out the rear window in his direction. As the suspect attempted to turn left, M/Trp. Grant used this window of opportunity to attempt at PIT maneuver. M/Trp. Grant understood that the suspect was using deadly force and closing the distance with him would put him closer into harm’s way. The intervention was successful, causing the suspect to lose control of his vehicle and surrender without further incident.

M/Trp. Grant’s action put himself in harm’s way to keep other officers and the community safe. This brave action represents the best of the Indiana State Police.
