Each of our programs is updated on an ongoing basis based upon the current needs and interests of our teen
membership. Following is a list of current program offerings:
Power Plant
Monday through Thursday we operate the Power Plant program after school. This time includes relationship building, games, snacks, homework help, positive adult interaction, special events, and pool. Parents can feel secure knowing their teen is spending time in a safe and supervised environment. Teens enjoy the opportunity to relax and have fun in this “family” style environment. Some of the ongoing activities provided in Power Plant include:
• Fit Club – Every Monday teens participate in this half hour introduction to a healthy lifestyle. They engage in a mini lesson on a topic and then participate in the physical fitness activity for the day. This activity may include walking, Frisbee golf, dodge ball, or other games. The teens earn points each week for their level of participation and as they meet goal levels they earn prizes. This is a great way to stay fit and enjoy doing it!
• Movie Day – One afternoon a month is dedicated to showing a positive, fun, and sometimes even educational movie. This is a great time to just relax together and enjoy popcorn.
• Monthly Competition – Each month a competition is held to challenge the members in a variety of arenas. A vast array of competitions is offered to meet the interests of our teen members. Some of these include: pool, cards, Apples to Apples, Madden, NBA, chess, and holiday trivia.
• Family Day – The last Wednesday of each month is Family Day. This is a day where all of the Power House staff spends the entire afternoon engaging with the teens. Everyone participates in a group game and then we sit down and have a meal together. Everyone looks forward to this monthly event
GLO
Friday nights teens are offered a “club” type environment to spend time with their friends and positive adult role models. This safe and supervised setting is open from 8:00 pm until midnight. Throughout the evening a DJ plays uplifting music, there is dancing, three pool tables, a snack bar, hourly contests, and a Wii station. The best part of GLO is that it is a fun, drug and alcohol free, safe place to be with friends at no cost! GAP
Friday evenings from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm we hold GAP. The evening begins with GAP Ahead where teens enjoy a homemade meal together and help the staff prepare for the evening activities. The first Friday of each month we hold GAP Fusion which is an interactive night that allows teens to get to know one another, build relationships with the adult volunteers, use some of their talents, and have fun while introducing the monthly topic. The rest of the month we have GAP which is a night of interactive teaching through multimedia sources, drama, video, music, dance, art, and presentations. The name GAP represents the distance between our head and our heart. Building upon Biblical principals and relevant life skills GAP helps prepare our members for the challenges they face every day. Power Surge
On Tuesday evenings from 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm teens who are interested in learning leadership skills can participate in Power Surge. These teens work through Biblically based lessons, activities, and assignments with the Power House staff. The goal is then to challenge them to explore their leadership abilities and put them into practice in their lives. Summer Destinations
During the Summer every Tuesday from 8:30am - 5:00pm. Students have the chance to go on adventures to various different locations while getting to partcipate in activities revolving around a Biblical theme and lesson. It's a time for fun, adventure, learning, and challenges. Power Praise
Power Praise focuses on joyfully enriching, expressing, and using talents and creativity. This program involves special classes on art, drama, music, and dance. Throughout the year we hold special seminars and workshops that are free to any interested teens. As they enhance and develop these special talents, we allow them to share them by displaying their work or performing at other Power House events and in the community. This program offers unique dance lessons free of charge to our members. In addition to a variety of dance styles, the participants learn the importance of modesty and self-esteem. Flip the Switch and Drama Team are two ongoing components of this program. Flip the Switch is our teen worship band that meets twice a week for practice and then performs weekly at GAP. The Drama Team creates and practices a new drama each month during their weekly practices and then performs at GAP and Glo. Both of these groups are open to new members. Anyone interested should contact one of our Directors. Power Point
This program includes two project areas: Mentoring and “What’s Up?” groups. Our Mentoring program matches a positive adult role model with a teen. With parental affirmation, the mentoring pair meets once a week. They may participate in a topical study, spend time talking, or doing something fun. The focus is established through consistency, reliability, and relationship building.
“What’s Up?” groups are same gender groups of 8-12 teens and two or three adults who meet once a week. They plan, prepare, and eat a meal together each week. Then they participate in a topical study, share what is happening in their lives, or have a fun night. These groups have become peer support groups for the teens as they deal with difficult situations in their lives. There are currently several “What’s Up?” groups meeting. Power Serve
The goal of this Power House program is to encourage the teens to give back to their school, community, and their country. Throughout the year there are many special events designed to involve the teens in this process. Each year at Christmas, the teens make ornaments and deliver them to all of the families and businesses in our neighborhood. During spring break, many teens participate in a Power House city clean up. We also take the teens to area organizations to help any way they can. As students approach high school age, they can participate in a week long trip to another state to serve in their community. We also partner with the Allen County Superior Court Juvenile Division in this program area. Teens, who have received Community Service because of a violation of the law, are matched with The Power House to work off their court sentenced hours. Our hope is that each of these activities, along with other opportunities, points them in a positive direction and leaves them with a desire to serve others.
