First on the machines at Atwater for Primary Day!
Today, New Haven Democrats vote for Connecticut Governor and, for some, State Representative. Democratic Gubernatorial candidates are Hamden State Representative Josh Elliott and the current Governor, Ned Lamont.
Ward 14 is split between two State Representative districts, with two voting locations:
🗳️ If your State Representative is Juan Candelaria, you live in the 95th District and vote at the Atwater Senior Center, 26 Atwater Street. Since Representative Candelaria is running for re-election unopposed, you vote in the Democratic Primary for Governor only.
🗳️ If your State Representative is Al Paolillo, you live in the 97th District and vote at the Woodward Fire Station, 824 Woodward Avenue. Since Representative Paolillo is running for State Senator this year, the seat is open and there are two candidates running: City of New Haven Fair Rent Director and Fair Haven resident Wildaliz Bermúdez and Ward 18 Alder and Assistant Attorney General Leland Moore.
Still not sure which district you are in? You are in good company. Earlier this year, I learned that Lee and I (and everyone on our block of Clinton Avenue) have been voting in the wrong State Representative district for the last two election cycles, over four years. This information sparked an investigation by the Secretary of State, which revealed that over 700 other voters across the city did the same, due to still-inexplicable errors by our New Haven Registrar of Voters. Thanks to intrepid reporting by the New Haven Independent and a hearing before the Board of Alders, the errors have since been corrected citywide. If you run into questions about your district today or in the future, please let me know so that we can make sure everyone votes in the correct district and knows who represents them in Hartford.
Remember that voting is a fundamental right for which many fought long and hard. It's one of the key methods by which we advance our goals and use our power in our democracy. State leadership also takes on extra meaning in this moment, given the crucial role of state government as a buttress against the onslaught of cuts and cruelty from the federal administration.

Hoy, los demócratas de New Haven votan en las primarias para elegir al gobernador de Connecticut y, en algunos casos, al diputado estatal. Los candidatos demócratas a gobernador son el diputado estatal de Hamden, Josh Elliott, y el actual gobernador, Ned Lamont.
El distrito electoral 14 se divide entre dos distritos de representante estatal, con dos colegios electorales:
