Money laundry.
𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐁𝐋𝐔𝐄 𝐂𝐄𝐎 𝐏𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐒 𝟓𝐓𝐇 𝐎𝐍 𝐑𝐔𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐀𝐍 𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐘 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝟑𝟖 𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐄𝐈𝐆𝐍-𝐅𝐋𝐀𝐆𝐆𝐄𝐃 𝐃𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒 — 𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐑𝐄 𝐋𝐄𝐆𝐀𝐋 𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐌 𝐀𝐋𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐘 𝐐𝐔𝐈𝐓
Last week, ActBlue CEO Regina Wallace-Jones appeared before the House Administration Committee and was asked five basic questions about the organization's fundraising practices. She answered none of them. She invoked the Fifth Amendment more than 22 times.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬. How many foreign contributions did ActBlue accept? How much money from Russia? Why did ActBlue's entire in-house legal team resign? Did ActBlue weaken its fraud detection standards to help Democrats? And the one Chairman Jim Jordan opened with — quoting ActBlue's own board chairman:
“𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘰𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘪𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘴𝘢𝘪𝘥 𝘈𝘤𝘵𝘉𝘭𝘶𝘦 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘱𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘶𝘱 𝘵𝘰 38 𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘣𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘪𝘯 2024 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘪𝘨𝘯 𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘯. 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘶𝘥 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘰𝘰 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘶𝘥?”
On that, and on every other question, the response was the same word for word: “𝘖𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘥𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘭, 𝘐 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘱𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘶𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘺 𝘍𝘪𝘧𝘵𝘩 𝘈𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.” A polite note of thanks to the committee at the end changed nothing.
The House Judiciary Committee's own report is titled “𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐈𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐁𝐥𝐮𝐞.” Five current and former employees collectively invoked the Fifth 146 times in depositions. ActBlue processes billions of dollars in Democratic Party fundraising every election cycle. It is the financial backbone of the American left — and its CEO cannot say whether it accepted money from Russia.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐧 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲. Every Democrat who raised funds through ActBlue owes voters a clean answer about where that money actually came from.
