Dear Friends and Supporters:
Voting is a right and a privilege, and also a responsibility. We must never forget that for so long in our nation’s history, voting was restricted—minorities couldn’t vote and neither could women.
It has been less than a hundred years since we extended that right to women, half our population. My own grandmother remembered a time before she could vote. I myself recall the struggles of the 1960’s to enforce the voting rights.
We as a people have fought for the voting right to be extended and protected for all citizens. We have fought on battlefields, state houses and congress, and even in the courts.
Part of the reason I have loved jury trials is that the jurors are formed of voters—always our most involved and thoughtful section of society. Voters take their responsibility seriously, and always listen as they sit in the jury.
Today is Saturday, April 4, and the election is three days away—Tuesday, April 7. I hope you have all either taken the time to vote absentee, or have set aside time on Tuesday to get to your polling station to cast your vote. It has been a long five months since I declared my candidacy for this position in late November. We have worked hard, and I have learned much. Most importantly, I have learned how important it is for our county that I hold the position of circuit court judge. This is not just about me, but about who will be best capable of filling this important position.
I have heard—again and again—as I meet voters in all stages of life and professions that “it’s time, time for a change.” I agree it is time for that change, and I will be honored to be the agent of that change. Please remind your family and friends of the importance of this election, and the need to vote on Tuesday, April 7.
If you have any last minute time and would like an extra sign, or to join us in our get out the vote efforts on Sunday (taking into account Easter celebrations), or even Monday (the last possible day!), please let me know, or contact Jim Grant directly at 608/225-2222 or [email protected]
As for Tracey and me, we will be out and about these last couple of days, meeting a few more people, placing a few more signs and sprucing up the many we have. Maybe I’ll find yet another 1909 penny in my change that really will be my lucky penny this time.
Once again, thank you all for your help and support, and especially for your votes. I am honored again to work with so many voters like you.
