Town of New Glarus

Town of New Glarus An official page for Town of New Glarus news. Grüezi from The Town of New Glarus. Swiss immigrants from Glarus, Switzerland, settled New Glarus in 1845.

Nestled within the rolling hills of Green County in Southern Wisconsin, New Glarus resembles the alpine farmlands of its namesake and is known today as America’s "Little Switzerland." New Glarus’ Swiss heritage is apparent in its architecture, geranium-filled flower boxes, ethnic foods and festivals. Perhaps the quiet rural setting or gorgeous backyard vistas are responsible for The Town's growth.

Perhaps it’s the easy 30-minute commute to either Monroe or Madison that has attracted our new residents. Perhaps it's our schools. We like to think that it’s our Swiss Hospitality and charm that caused our population to nearly double since 1990. New Glarus is currently home to 1,314 residents.

Monday October 21, 2024 is the next scheduled bulk wast pickup by Pellitteri. If no items were picked up on Monday, a truck will return on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

This collection is only within the Town of New Glarus, not the Village of New Glarus. Most Town address numbers are preceded with a W or an N (except for those on Second Street).

08/20/2024

I received a message from Pellitteri that some addresses were missed in the Town of New Glarus yesterday, August 19, 2024. I have received some calls for missed recycling and some for missed trash and recycling. Please contact us if your property was missed. Trucks will be returning today, so please leave any unemptied carts to the street.

Fireworks Permits Required

A quick reminder that fireworks displays in the Town of New Glarus require completion of a permit application (https://townofnewglarus.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Fireworks-Permit-rev-5.11.2022.pdf), payment of a fee, and adherence to the standards established by local ordinance (https://townofnewglarus.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Adopted-and-signed-Fireworks-Ordinance-2022-04.pdf).

Permits must be approved by the Town Chair, Chris Narveson, prior to the event. It is a good idea to schedule a rain date in the event of rain or dry conditions that contraindicate holding the event on the original date. No additional fee or application is required when setting an alternate date, unless you have displays on both dates.

Applications will be shared with the Green County Sherriff, Chief of the New Glarus Fire Department, and the Town of New Glarus Board.

Applicants should notify neighbors, especially those with pets and horses as well as follow basic safety standards.
