I want to thank all of those in our community who stepped forward to run for office, and to all voters who took time out of their busy schedules to cast ballots. I know it's not easy putting yourself out in front of the voters, especially in times like these.

I will also note that two recent NGSD graduates were elected to area offices, including Olivia Xistris-Songpanya who was elected to the Dane County of Supervisors and our son, Will, who was elected to represent the Village of New Glarus for the District 28 Green County Board of Supervisors.

Dau Songpanya and Julia Xistris, we look forward to watching Olivia!

Thank you to all who voted in yesterday's school board election and for your confidence in me. I pledge to work hard on behalf of all students, teachers, staff and taxpayers. As before, I welcome feedback and questions at any time on my school district email, and I will continue to respond to your questions just as I have the past three years.

My email is: [email protected]

Let's get to work, together as a community, to continue to build strong schools because, "Strong Schools Make a Great Community!"

I have been told that much is being said about the school board race on social media, and am being asked to comment on some of what is being said. As I said in my opinion letter published in last Thursday’s Post Messenger, I will continue to keep my focus on those issues that truly are important to our school district and kids. I will NOT engage in divisive political issues being generated on social media. Tribalism is harming our country and unfortunately appears to have arrived on our door step here in New Glarus.

I'm still disappointed that WEKZ the Big Easy was unable to hold the New Glarus School Board candidate debate because of lack of participation. I think it's vital that voters have a full understanding of where candidates stand, and have the opportunity to ask the hard questions.

By contrast, the candidates for the Monroe school board debated for more than an hour Wednesday night, and I suspect the voters were the real winners. Transparency is key to a successful democracy.

As always, feel free to ask me any questions you have.

I've made a concerted effort to talk about what I plan to do if I'm given another three years on the New Glarus School Board. The focus should be on what candidates seek to accomplish. We live in a great community with strong schools, and I will make every effort to insure this continues.

Dear Editor, Like elections across the country, our local school board race has not been immune from overheated rhetoric. In the 22 years my family and I have lived in the New Glarus community, this is the first time I have witnessed so many negative personal comments being made about candidates. Th...
