The City of New Franklin (“City”) utilizes social media sites to communicate with residents, businesses and visitors, build trust with the public, provide relevant and timely information, and obtain feedback. Communicating with the City through social media enab
les direct communication between the user and City officials. All social media comments, messages, digital text, photos, audio, and video exchanged with the City are public record and are archived by a third-party agency to follow the City’s records retention policy. Social media incudes but is not limited to Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn. Please be aware that when engaging with this agency through social media, you agree to the following:
The City of New Franklin does not necessarily endorse, support, sanction, encourage, verify or agree with Third Party comments, messages, posts, opinions, advertisements, videos, promoted content, external hyperlinks, linked websites (or the information, products or services contained therein), statements, commercial products, processes or services posted on any social media site. The City’s social media sites serve as a limited public forum, and all content published is subject to preservation and disclosure in accordance with Ohio Public Record Law. The City respects individual freedom of speech, and in most instances, will not edit, change or delete posts. However, user-generated posts may be rejected or removed when the content includes any of the following:
• incitement of violence or violent behavior
• defamation or spread of misinformation
• copyrighted or commercial material
• fraudulent material or accusations
• obscene, profane, violent or illegal material
• conduct in violation of any federal, state or local law
• content that promotes discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or national origin
• comments not related to the original topic, including random or unintelligible comments
• threats to any person or organization
• content in support of or in opposition to political campaigns or ballot measures
This policy is subject to amendment or modification at any time. The City does not allow information intended to compromise the safety or security of the public or public systems. Users participate at their own risk, taking personal responsibility for comments, usernames and any information provided. The City reserves the right to deny access to any City of New Franklin social media site for any individual or user who violates this policy at any time and without prior notice. If a user is banned from a City site, the social media manager will notify the New Franklin Police Department with written documentation of why the user was banned, creating a record of the time, date, person and reason for banning. If there is an emergency, call 911.
