During National Public Safety Telecommunications Week, we want to recognize and thank our partners at South Summit Dispatch Center for the critical role they play in every call for service.

Our dispatchers do far more than answer the phone, they gather vital information that helps prepare our officers before they even arrive on scene. From details about the situation to potential risks and evolving circumstances, their communication ensures our officers have a clearer picture of what they may be walking into.

That information is essential for officer safety, effective response, and protecting the community. Their ability to stay calm, ask the right questions, and relay accurate details makes all the difference when seconds matter.

We are grateful for their professionalism, dedication, and the behind the scenes work that keeps our officers informed and our community safe every single day.

On March 14th at approximately 7:11 PM, officers were dispatched to a residence for a reported domestic dispute. The incident involved two adult males and escalated from a verbal argument into a physical altercation, during which a firearm was discharged. Prior to our officers’ arrival, the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle. With the assistance of the Springfield Township Police Department, the suspect was quickly located and taken into custody without further incident.

Our officers recovered the firearm believed to have been used, along with a spent casing, at the scene. A 25-year-old male from Springfield Township was arrested and transported to the Summit County Jail, where he was booked on multiple charges related to this incident. We understand that incidents like this can be concerning to hear about and we are thankful to report that no one was injured from the discharged firearm. This appears to be an isolated incident between individuals known to one another, and there is no ongoing threat to our community.

Our goal in sharing this information is to remain transparent and keep our residents informed on critical incidents that occur within our community. We appreciate the continued support, the professionalism of our officers that were involved in this incident, and we are grateful for the assistance of the Springfield Township Police Department in helping us bring this incident to a safe ending.

Please be diligent when receiving phone calls for service. Recently a property owner in New Franklin was contacted by someone claiming to work for Servpro. The scammer was looking to do work on a wind damaged roof from the most recent storms. The property owner suspicious looked into the phone number provided which led to a bogus page.

As the temperatures start to rise, we know many people in New Franklin and Clinton will be out enjoying the nice weather. That means more families walking, kids playing outside, people riding bikes, and neighbors out and about. It also tends to be the time of year when we start receiving speeding complaints on various roads within our community.

With that being said, our department would like to hear from you. If there is a road in your neighborhood where speeding is an issue, please make us aware so we can address the concern through visibility and enforcement.

You can make us aware by:
-Commenting on this post
-Contact South Summit Dispatch Center to speak with an Officer
-Send us a message here on Facebook

Your feedback is important to us, and it helps us identify the areas of concern. In some situations, officers may conduct speed enforcement from private property as long as they have permission from the property owner or another person that is authorized to give permission.

Let’s work together to keep New Franklin and Clinton safe this spring and summer!
