It is with an extremely heavy heart that I share the passing of our former member and dear friend, Joe “Joey” Zegley.
Many of us grew up with Joey, served alongside him, laughed with him, and shared countless memories with him. For me personally, this loss is almost impossible to put into words. Joey wasn't just a friend—he was my best friend and like a brother to me.
Over the years, Joey and I spent countless hours fishing together. Some of my favorite memories are of Joey taking my son fishing when he was younger. Joey always looked forward to having him come along and treated him as if he were his own son. Those days on the water, the laughs we shared, and the memories we made together are moments my family will cherish forever.
Beyond the fishing trips, Joey became part of our family. Whether it was spending an evening out at Outback with my wife, sharing stories, laughs, and friendship, those times were always special. They were the kind of moments you think will always be there. My wife, my son, and I are going to miss him more than words can ever express.
The Zegley family has been woven into the history of Ball Pond for generations. Joey's father, Jim, served as President and Captain of the Company, and Jim and Mary Jane have always been like family to so many of us. His brothers, Jimmy, a former member, and John, who continues to proudly serve our Department today, have continued that tradition of dedication and service.
Right now, our thoughts and prayers are with Nichole, John and the entire Zegley family as they face this unimaginable loss. I have been in contact with John and will share any information regarding services or arrangements as soon as it becomes available.
Joey's passing leaves a hole in many hearts, but especially in mine. I will miss my fishing partner, my friend, and my brother. The memories we shared will stay with me for the rest of my life.
Please keep the Zegley family in your thoughts and prayers.
Rest easy, Joey. We'll take it from here.
