NEW ELLENTON POLICE DEPARTMENT LAUNCHES AUTISM AWARENESS DECAL PROGRAM

The New Ellenton Police Department is proud to announce the arrival of Autism Awareness decals, made possible through the support of OnPoint Upfitters.

These decals are more than just a sticker. They can provide critical information to a first responder when seconds matter.

Some individuals with autism may be nonverbal, have difficulty communicating, or respond differently during stressful or emergency situations. By placing an Autism Awareness decal on a vehicle, parents and caregivers can help alert law enforcement, fire, EMS, and other first responders that an autistic child may be present.

💙 Our goal is simple: Awareness. Understanding. Safety.

We are encouraging parents and caregivers of autistic children to obtain up to TWO decals for placement on their vehicle windows.

We want to thank Aiken Electric Cooperative, INC for their hard work in this treacherous heat this afternoon to bring the estimated 3800 customers electricity back on.

It was a very difficult time for many, but we must give credit to those who left their homes to ensure we all were taken care of. We appreciate you, linemen!

We would like to take the opportunity to introduce our newest graduate, Officer Lamar “Carlton” Andrews.

Andrews completed his initial 12 weeks of training to progress to the next step of field training where he will respond to calls with training officers to learn how to better hone skills taught to him by the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.

Congratulations, Andrews! You have made us proud and look forward to all the great things you will accomplish with the citizens of New Ellenton!

The New Ellenton Police Department is excited to announce the recent hiring of Lieutenant Rafael Quiles. Lt. Quiles comes to us bringing his several years of patrol, as well as investigations experience to our great city. We look forward to seeing the great things he will help accomplish with us.

We will be closing the road way of Main Street from the red light at Smith and George Avenue all the way to Oak and Oak Ridge Avenue this year to accommodate the anticipation of a higher number of cars entered into the car show. Can’t wait to see everyone at the 2026 Atomic City Festival!

At this time, those reports are FALSE. There has been no confirmed shooting at the Piggly Wiggly.

We understand that scanner traffic and third-party alert applications can sometimes contain inaccurate, incomplete, or unverified information. We encourage the public to rely on official information released by the Wagener Police Department and our public safety partners before sharing or acting on reports circulating online.

We appreciate everyone’s concern and cooperation. If there is ever a legitimate threat to public safety, the Wagener Police Department or Aiken County Sheriff’s Office will notify the community promptly through our official communication channels.

Operation Southern Slowdown is going on from July 13 - 19 as law enforcement agencies across South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, and Tennessee work together to reduce speeding and save lives.

The numbers tell the story:

• Speed was one of the top five contributing factors in South Carolina crashes in 2023.
• 382 people lost their lives in speed-related crashes in South Carolina in 2023.
• 14,718 people were injured in speed-related crashes across the state in 2023.
• Nationwide, 12,151 people were killed in speed-related crashes in 2022.
• Male drivers ages 15 to 20 had the highest percentage of speeding-related fatal crashes among all age groups in 2022.

Every time you get behind the wheel, choose safety over speed. Slow down, stay focused, and help protect everyone on the road.
