Today we pause to remember September 11th, the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the bravery of those who responded that day. Out of that tragedy came a powerful call to service. The outpouring of volunteers after 9/11 showed both the strength of our communities and the need for a system to organize them, giving rise to the Medical Reserve Corps.

Since then, the MRC has grown into nearly 800 units with over 300,000 volunteers nationwide. Every time you staff a clinic, assist in an emergency, or share your knowledge in the community, you are part of that legacy. You carry forward the resilience and spirit of service that grew out of 9/11.

So as we honor and remember today, we also recognize you, the volunteers who continue to show up, to serve, and to strengthen our communities.

Respiratory viruses like COVID-19, flu, and RSV can impact anyone, but certain groups face a higher risk for severe illness.

Older adults, young children, and people with weakened immune systems, disabilities, or who are pregnant should take extra precautions during respiratory virus season.
