Well, it has been an interesting election in the District 88 House of Delegates race and I thought I would give you an update. I find myself 1 vote behind at the moment (see below). Both Mineral and Hampshire counties will count provisional and absentee ballots this coming Monday. Then the election results canvassing process will occur. Hopefully it will come out in our favor.

Well, it is now down to you the voter. Please come out and vote tomorrow, May 10th.

I’d like to thank the many people I have met and spoken to across the district. I would be honored to be your representative to the House of Delegates from District 88.

I would like to thank each one of you that supported me in some way. Many of you have heard me speak about my successful teams that I’ve led or been a part. A leader cannot be successful without a great team. Each of you have given me the encouragement and support necessary in running a successful campaign. I appreciate the many conversations that I’ve had with each of you.

You have heard about my experience and qualifications to be your delegate. You have heard about my approach to governance. I’ve given you details on my policy positions. I’ve also explained the following:

1) My teams and I have brought over 450 jobs to the region.

2) As a two-term member of the Mineral County Board of Education we introduced policies and programs that resulted in direct improvements in year-over-year comprehensive test scores.

3) As a member of the UPMC Western Maryland Board of Directors we approved the affiliation with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center for our region, the 5th rated hospital system in the country.

I grew up and lived in Mineral County for over 55 yrs. of my life and have shown that I can bring tremendous benefit to the region by improving the economy, education and health care so, I’m asking you to give me the opportunity to improve our region in other areas as your representative in Charleston.

I’ve explained to you that I’ve been endorsed by four organizations (West Virginians for Life, WV Citizens Defense League, WV Farm Bureau and WV Manufacturers Association) and believe I am the only candidate from District 88 that has received these endorsements.

When you go to the polls to vote this Tuesday in the May 10th Primary, a vote for Keith Funkhouser is a vote for:

1) Protecting the unborn - Pro-Life, endorsed by West Virginians For Life

2) Defending our 2nd Amendment rights - Pro-Gun, endorsed by WV Citizens Defense League, the leading gun rights organization in the state

3) Increasing our agricultural output through modifying or eliminating policies that hinder our farmers. Endorsed by the WV Farm Bureau

4) Growing the economy by focusing on bringing manufacturing industries to WV and our region by establishing policies that are pro-business. Endorsed by the WV Manufacturers Association

I thought I would share with you a question from a fellow citizen and my response. This will give you an idea of how I will approach governance as your representative. I appreciate the question and look forward to having the opportunity of being your representative in Charleston, WV.

Concerned voter: My first question for all republican candidates going forward…….Are you an “America First” candidate?
We can’t afford anymore back stabbing RINOs in our government. And that means from the bottom up. I’d like to vote for you, but I need to know what type of candidate you’ll be. It all starts local!

My response: Thank you for the question. I believe, as you, that having the right people in office starts local. Although the position I am seeking is at the state level, I’m a representative of the people in our region. I have held in the past and still hold positions of influence that are local, some elected and some appointed. Serving on the Mineral Co. Board of Education (elected), as a Board of Director for UPMC Western Maryland (nominated & appointed) and appointed as the VP & GM at ABL. I believe my record as a leader in these three fields (education, health care and national defense) speak for themselves. I’ll bring the same approach to setting legislative policy for the state. I’m a conservative in all aspects and have been my entire life. I believe in securing our borders against illegal immigration, our Supreme Court Justice appointments should stand for conservative values (especially concerning the life of the unborn, I’m very passionate about this one but will move on), we should eliminate harmful regulations at both the state and national levels that impact our businesses and citizens, especially small businesses, we the parents should be in control of our children’s education (if you speak to the people I represented on the Mineral Co. Board of Education, I believe they would tell you that I stood up for our kids and parents in setting county education policy), I have always been a “Made in America” advocate, we at NG ABL created over 450 jobs while I led the company as the VP & GM and we need to become energy independent again, meaning we need to reinstate the policies of the previous administration. This may be long winded but I hope you appreciate the explanation because I believe it was important to provide you with an answer that summarized my thoughts and how I’ve approached and lived my life in all aspects. Thank you again for your question and I hope you will vote for me as your House of Delegates Representative in our district (District 88).

As many of you are aware, I’ve spent my career in designing and manufacturing defense products for our women and men in the armed forces. When I was the VP & GM of Northrup Grumman-ABL, my team and I brought over 450 direct jobs to the region and additional indirect job growth for our citizens. When elected as your representative for the House of Delegates, I will bring business experience to the legislative process.

Recently I was honored with an endorsement by the West Virginians for Manufacturing Jobs PAC (WVMJ), part of the West Virginia Manufacturers Association. Thank you for this endorsement.

I participated in the Ft. Ashby Days parade today. Handed out candy to the “little kids” and the “big ones too” 😃. I believe everyone had a good time and the weather was beautiful! If you haven’t stopped by yet, there is one day left. Have fun!
