DA Tom Walsh had a wonderful time on Sunday at the 15th Annual United Latin Festival. The rain did not damper the festivities and the sun came out for a tremendous celebration of the rich and vibrant Latino community of Haverstraw. The people, music, food and fun was a tremendous joy to behold and DA Walsh enjoyed being a part of this wonderful annual event celebrating Haverstraw’s Latin community.

Our office proudly partnered with Magnet Forensics and hosted a regional conference on Thursday, September 10th at Rockland County Community College for members of law enforcement. Digital investigations are going through an incredible period of transformation and law enforcement agencies need every tool at their disposal to stay ahead. We heard several presentations on the latest AI powered solutions available to help serve our community and enhance public safety, while taking into consideration the consitutional and privacy concerns applicable to data access.

Our featured speakers from Magnet Forensics were Justin Fitzsimmons and Tarah Ward. Justin Fitzsimmons serves as the Technical Prosecutor Lead at Magnet Forensics and is also, part-time Assistant State’s Attorney assigned to the Cyber Crime Unit of the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office in Illinois. He is a leader in the education of other members of law enforcement on how to modernize their approach to digital evidence. Tarah Ward is a Senior Solutions Consultant with Magnet Forensics who served as a Forensic Examiner with the United States Department of Defense for 10 years, specializing in cyber defense, incident response and counterterrorism. Thank you to Magnet Forensics for this tremendous training event and we were grateful to all our law enforcement partners that attended to educate themselves in this evolving field of cyber investigation.

Throughout this week and yesterday, on the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks upon our great country, District Attorney Tom Walsh and members of the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office attended several 9/11 memorial ceremonies across the county at our town and village halls. September 11, 2001, was a tragedy for our nation, and we suffered an immeasurable loss of life. We will always remember the tremendous acts of heroism amongst our citizens, police, firefighters, and first responders. We honor the lives lost and we vow to never forget. God Bless America.🇺🇸

TWO-TIME CONVICTED BURGLAR SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS IN STATE PRISON

NEW CITY, N.Y. – District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announces that on September 9, 2026, Wesleigh Gilsenan, 42, of Orangetown, New York, was sentenced to nine years state prison and five years post release supervision by the Honorable Kevin F. Russo. The defendant had been convicted on January 30, 2026, after a two-day bench trial of one count of Burglary in the Second Degree (Penal Law §140.25(2)). The defendant was sentenced today following the Court’s adjudication that he is a second violent felony offender, based on a prior conviction for Burglary in the Second Degree in 2010 in Orange County, New York.

On April 24, 2025, at approximately 10:50 a.m., the defendant unlawfully entered the first-floor apartment of a house in the Village of Spring Valley and searched through various items belonging to the victim, including medication and money. The investigation was conducted by the Village of Spring Valley Police Department with assistance from the Rockland County Sherriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation Unit.

District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II said, “Burglary is not just a property crime, it is a profound invasion of the sanctity of an individual’s home and a violation of their sense of safety that leaves a lasting trauma on victims. Due to the hard work of our prosecutors and law enforcement partners, this repeat felon will face an enhanced sentence that reflects the gravity of their conduct and recidivism, while providing much needed peace of mind to the victim and our community.”

The case was prosecuted by Executive Assistant District Attorney Emily McNiff and Senior Assistant District Attorney Katie Crispi.

Yesterday, as we prepare for the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, our staff watched a special screening of The Man in the Red Bandana, a powerful and inspiring film about the life and legacy of Welles Remy Crowther. Welles Crowther was a young man whose extraordinary courage, selflessness, and determination during the September 11 attacks saved lives and left a lasting legacy of heroism.

He became known as “The Man in the Red Bandana”. In honor of this Rockland County hero and remarkable person, our office named our Electronic Detection K9 Dog Remy. His legacy lives on in Remy and her commitment to public service. Welles Remy Crowther’s heroism and sacrifice is a powerful reminder of courage, service, and the lasting impact one person can have on the lives of others. Our office will never forget him.
