Yesterday, I attended two ceremonies where many came together to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the horrific 9/11 tragedy.
I attended the Memorial Ceremony at Haverstraw Bay County Park, and Clarkstown 9/11 Memorial Ceremony, where families, first responders, community members and local officials came together to remember and honor the 2,977 innocent lives lost and honor the courage of first responders, survivors, and countless people who came together in the face of tragedy, and ran towards this horror to help others.
Both programs were well planned and magnificently coordinated by Chaplain David Lothrop. Many came up to reflect on the tragedy of 9/11, and tell their stories of their loved ones they had lost. The names of the Rockland victims were read and a bell was rung for each, to mark a moment of silence, and honor each life lost.
These annual ceremonies are so critical, so that we continue to remember the victims, the families who continue to carry their absence, and the courage of many who risked their lives to help others.
We must remember in order that we never forget that tragic day. If we never forget, we can stay vigilant and pray that this never will happen again.
