Congratulations to the graduates of the Clarkstown Police Department Youth Academy. Supervisor George Hoehmann, the Town Board and Chief Fay presented certificates to the graduates prior to the Town Board meeting. The 10 week program familiarizes students with the training and education police officers receive when they are enrolled in the police academy. Thank you to Lt. Kieran Dwyer and our dedicated School Resource Officers for their leadership and guidance in making this program a success. We are so proud of all the students who participated who will be the future leaders of law enforcement.

Supervisor George Hoehmann and members of the Town Board attended the graduation ceremony for the Spring Class of 2026 at A. MacArthur Barr Middle School.

The strong partnership between the Nanuet Union Free School District and the Clarkstown Police Department helps equip students with the knowledge and strategies they need to make positive choices and resist pressures from strangers or peers to use controlled substances.

A special thank you to School Resource Officer Kathleen Gavin, our DARE officers, teachers, and school staff for their dedication to guiding students during this crucial stage of their lives. The good decisions made today help create even greater opportunities for tomorrow.

Clarkstown is proud to continue supporting this outstanding program in our school districts due to the positive impact it has on our students and the community at large.

The Town coordinated a mock DWI accident scene demonstration to raise awareness about drinking and driving and distracted driving. The time between Memorial Day and Labor Day is known as the 100 deadliest days, with increased accidents involving young people.

A complete demonstration of a drunk driving car accident, covering extrication, arrest, and arraignment emphasizes the dangers of drunk driving and the significant legal consequences that follow. Anastasia Karassik, whose 13-year-old daughter Larisa was tragically killed by a drunk driver in 2015, shared her compelling story, warning students that one bad decision to drink and drive could carry deadly and irreversible consequences. Please be safe, make a plan, and don't drink and drive.

Thank you to the following organizations for participating in this important event: Clarkstown Police Department, Nanuet Fire Department, Nanuet Community Ambulance Corps, Nanuet Union Free School District and our speakers Chief James Fay, Supervisor George Hoehmann, Principal Mahoney, Rep. Mike Lawler, and Anastasia Karassik.

Thursday, June 4th marked the 90th birthday of Gloria Zoda, a significant milestone in her long and blessed life dedicated to positively impacting others through our local schools, healthcare, and her exceptional service to the wider Clarkstown community.

Born in Brooklyn in 1936 and a Clarkstown resident since 1972, Gloria and her husband Nick, a retired NYPD officer, together raised a vibrant and well-respected legacy of six children who graduated from the Nanuet School District and carried forward the values of hard work, civic duty, and faith..

From her years supporting students in the Nanuet Union Free School District to her career in Regulatory Affairs at Lederle Laboratories (now Pfizer), Gloria devoted her life to protecting others and profoundly shaped the safety of our town. Her commitment to public service also inspired generations of her family to join the Nanuet Community Ambulance Corps, serving with distinction and achieving Lifetime Membership honors.

Gloria is a devoted parishioner of St. Anthony’s Church and proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren and multiple great-grandchildren including nine graduates between Clarkstown and Nanuet Schools. Gloria's legacy can be seen throughout our community and in the numerous lives she has touched along the way.

On behalf of the Town Board, Supervisor George Hoehmann, Town Clerk Lauren Marie Wohl, and Councilman Jon Valentino joined Gloria at River Court on Main to celebrate her 90th birthday and were honored to recognize Gloria’s extraordinary contributions by proclaiming June 6, 2026 as Gloria Zoda Day.

Please join us all in wishing Gloria a very happy 90th birthday and thanking her for a lifetime of dedication to Clarkstown!
