As Military Appreciation Month comes to a close, the Delaware National Guard was proud to support the 15th Annual Our Community Salutes of Delaware Enlistee Recognition Ceremony, recognizing members of the Class of 2026 who have chosen to serve our nation through military service on May 12, 2026 at Clayton Hall on the campus of the University of Delaware.
The ceremony celebrated not only the students preparing to wear the uniform, but also the families, educators, mentors and community partners who helped them reach this milestone. Organizations such as USAA, Comcast, The Boeing Company, Navy Federal Credit Union, American Military University, Lions Clubs International, and many others continue to invest in service members and military families, making programs like this possible and demonstrating their commitment to those who serve.
Attendees heard from two Delaware National Guard members whose careers reflect the many opportunities military service can provide. Army Chief Warrant Officer 5 Epps shared lessons in leadership, perseverance and service drawn from her experiences in the Delaware Army National Guard, while Airman Fedorkowicz offered a perspective from the Delaware Air National Guard’s firefighting community.
A special thank you to veteran Gary Dawson, whose vision and dedication have made Our Community Salutes of Delaware a lasting tradition. Through his leadership, hundreds of Delaware students preparing to enter military service have been recognized and celebrated before beginning their next chapter.
As we conclude Military Appreciation Month, we are reminded that service starts long before a recruit ships to training. It begins with a decision to serve, is strengthened by family and community support, and continues through leaders like those recognized during this ceremony.
Congratulations to the Class of 2026, and thank you for choosing a life of service.

This morning, the Delaware Air National Guard proudly hosted its annual Retiree Breakfast at the McCallister Dining Facility at the 166th Airlift Wing, bringing together generations of Airmen whose service helped shape the legacy of the DEANG.

This year, the Delaware Air National Guard recognized Lt. Col. Jason Strickland, former aviator with the 142nd Operations Group, for his outstanding dedication and service. Although unable to attend in person, Lt. Col. Strickland was honored with the Conspicuous Service Cross, a commemorative plaque, and the placement of his name stencil on the fuselage of a C-130H2.5 Hercules aircraft — a lasting tribute to his impact on the mission and the Airmen who continue it today.

The Delaware Air National Guard salutes all of our Airmen, past and present, who have selflessly dedicated themselves to defending our state and nation from enemies both foreign and domestic. Your legacy continues to inspire the next generation of Citizen Airmen. 🇺🇸✈️

Educators from across Delaware visited multiple Delaware Army National Guard facilities during the “Center of Influence” educator outreach event May 5-6, 2026, throughout the state. Organized by the Delaware Army National Guard Recruiting and Retention Battalion in recognition of Teacher Appreciation Week and Military Appreciation Month, the two-day event honored the educators, counselors, administrators, instructors, resource officers and other school staff who play a vital role in mentoring and guiding Delaware students toward future career opportunities and success.

The event strengthened partnerships between the Delaware Army National Guard and local school districts that regularly work alongside recruiting teams to help connect high school and college-aged students with educational, professional and leadership opportunities. Throughout the experience, educators were transported by military aircraft and visited several Guard facilities where they received mission briefings, unit tours and hands-on insight into the organization’s capabilities, incentives, education benefits and career pathways available through military service.

Northern Delaware schools visited the Army Aviation Support Facility and Joint Force Headquarters in New Castle on May 5, where they learned about aviation operations, emergency response capabilities and statewide missions supporting both Delaware communities and national defense efforts. On May 6, southern Delaware schools toured a field maintenance shop in Dagsboro and Bethany Beach Training Site, receiving an inside look at equipment readiness, Soldier training and the operational support required to maintain a mission-ready force.

The “Center of Influence” initiative provided educators with a firsthand understanding of the Delaware Army National Guard’s mission and opportunities, while recognizing the lasting impact teachers and school staff have on shaping the next generation of leaders, professionals and potential service members throughout the state.
