Do you get your drinking water from a private well? You can now request free water testing through a statewide program from DNREC and the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services.

Testing is available at no cost for PFAS and a range of other chemical and bacteriological contaminants. Because private wells aren’t regulated under the federal Safe Drinking Water Act, well owners are generally responsible for testing and maintaining their drinking water.

If testing finds certain contaminants above threshold levels, the state will provide information about next steps. Assistance with treatment may also be available for qualifying households.

Expanding access to private well testing is one of the priorities in Delaware’s 2026 PFAS Implementation Plan and part of our ongoing work to identify PFAS contamination and reduce potential exposure.

Medicaid ENGAGE!

Medicaid eligibility rules are changing for non-U.S. citizens. Starting Oct. 1, 2026, you must have an approved immigration status to receive full Medicaid benefits under new federal rules. This includes lawful permanent residents (with a Green Card) who have completed their five-year waiting period or had a status that didn’t require it, Cuban or Haitian entrants, citizens of the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, or Palau living in the U.S. under the Compact of Free Association (COFA), and children or pregnant women who qualify under Delaware’s elected CHIPRA 214 option.

Today, on the 25th anniversary of September 11, The State Office of Volunteerism's Read Across Delaware Service Project spread the gift of reading to children across the state. Thanks to the generosity of donors and volunteers, more than 9,000 books were collected and delivered to schools throughout Delaware - putting new stories and learning opportunities into the hands of our kids.

Governor Matt Meyer joined for deliveries and read to students along the way. This meaningful Day of Service and Remembrance honors the spirit of September 11 by bringing people together through kindness and a shared commitment to our communities.
