Today we mourn the loss of Mayor, community servant and Delawarean Mayor Ted Becker. Ted was on the front lines of protecting open space and advocating for all Delawareans. We will greatly miss his leadership and on behalf of all Delawareans I am thankful for his tireless work and commitment to preserving Delaware’s charm and progress left an indelible mark on the town and its residents.

One of the greatest things about being County Executive is celebrating all the accomplishments of my fellow Delawareans. As a graduate of Harlan Elementary, I am excited to share this children's book, written and illustrated by 2 educators at Harlan, Ciara Carter and Ashley Graves.

It is essential that we raise our children to value the importance of self-love, acceptance, and understanding- all themes that this story highlights.

Please join me in congratulating and supporting these two phenomenal Delaware educators.

We all have a role to play in reduction of gun violence in our communities. Last evening, New Castle County Council voted unanimously on two ordinances that will help protect our friends, neighbors and families.

Opinion: We must continue to pass additional gun safety laws at every level of government in Delaware.

The developer of a proposed Middletown warehouse is suing the County in an effort to force through its plan despite serious questions pertaining to the project’s potential impacts. This is just the developer’s latest attempt to pressure me into short circuiting the County’s land use development process. Let me be clear: I won’t back down. County Code provides a process for my Department of Land Use to respond to Councilmembers’ questions about whether a plan is Code-compliant. Such questions have been raised here. I will ensure that this lawsuit does nothing to deter the Department from appropriately considering and addressing Councilmembers’ legitimate questions and concerns.

When I took office in 2017 we were facing a major vacant housing problem. Hundreds of vacant houses were lowering property values across out communities, draining police resources for nuisance calls and leaving millions of dollars in tax dollars unpaid.

Our Vacant Spaces to Livable Places initiative has transformed dozens of these properties into homes that improve their community. Take a listen and learn how we did it!

It was an honor to speak to so many young authors, artists and poets and their families last night at our annual New Castle County Libraries launch party for the Imazine student publication.

Even as a former math teacher, I can appreciate the fantastic future so many of our students have in poetry and prose.
