🇺🇸 25th Anniversary September 11th Service of Remembrance

The public is invited to attend the Town of New Canaan’s annual September 11th Service of Remembrance on Friday, September 11, on the front lawn of Town Hall, 77 Main Street.

This year marks the 25th Anniversary of September 11, 2001. The remembrance ceremony will begin promptly at 9:55 a.m. Attendees may arrive beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Police Chief John DiFederico will lead the ceremony, with participation from First Selectman Dionna Carlson, members of the New Canaan Police Department, Fire Department, and Emergency Medical Services, as well as a bagpiper and St. Aloysius Church.

Refreshments will be served immediately following the ceremony.

All are welcome to join us as we remember and honor those who lost their lives and those who continue to serve our community.

FIRE HAZARD PRODUCT RECALL

The New Canaan Fire Marshal’s Office is sharing an important recall involving Cooluli 10-Liter and 15-Liter Minifridges.

The recalled minifridges’ electrical switch can short-circuit, posing fire and burn hazards.

Consumers should stop using the recalled minifridges immediately.

🔋 Lithium-Ion Battery Safety: Small Battery. Big Risk. 🔥

Lithium-ion batteries power many of the devices we use every day, but when damaged, improperly used, or incorrectly charged, they can overheat, catch fire, or even explode.

Protect your home and family by following a few simple safety tips:
✔️ Use quality products and the correct charger
✔️ Charge devices on hard, flat surfaces never on beds or couches
✔️ Keep batteries away from heat and inspect them regularly
✔️ Never throw lithium-ion batteries in the trash

🚨 Important: In the event of a battery fire, evacuate immediately and call 911. Do not try to extinguish it with water.

Each year, flooding causes more deaths than any other thunderstorm-related hazard.

According to the CDC: Over half of flood-related drownings happen when a vehicle is driven into floodwaters
The next highest number occurs when people walk into or near floodwaters

Floodwater is more powerful than it looks:
⚠️ Just 6 inches of fast-moving water can knock an adult off their feet
⚠️ 12 inches can carry away most cars
⚠️ 2 feet can sweep away SUVs and trucks

Many of these tragedies are preventable.
🚫 Never drive around barricades blocking a flooded road
🚫 Never walk or drive into floodwaters
⚠️ The road beneath the water may be washed out

It is NEVER safe to enter floodwaters.
Stay alert. Stay safe.
