URGENT: There is currently a petition by an out of area organization seeking to take control of the Public, Education and Government access channels (PEG) in our area including New Canaan, Darien, Westport, Greenwich, Wilton, Stamford, and Weston. If successful, Nutmeg TV will wrest local control of these channels, dealing a major blow to our communities and decide what programs we can see in our own communities. It would also take away important grants from our towns. PLEASE CONSIDER sending an email to help stop this. SEND EMAIL TO: [email protected]. "Subject: PURA Docket 25-09-07 – Protect New Canaan PEG channels
Body: I urge PURA to reject the proposal in Docket 25-09-07 to replace the Area Nine town-specific PEG model with a regionalized model operated by Nutmeg. New Canaan residents rely on clearly identifiable local programming—especially government meetings—on Optimum Channel 79 (NCTV79). Regional consolidation will reduce visibility and local control and risks approximately $8,000/year in funding each for TV78 and TV79. Please maintain the existing model and protect town-level PEG access and funding."

NCTV79 CABLE CHANNEL MOVING EFFECTIVE AUGUST 21ST
New Canaan’s Public Access television station - Channel 79 - is moving to Channel 1310 as Optimum cable (Altice) does a major shuffle of its channels.

New Canaan Public Access (NCTV79) has carried town meetings and community programing for many years, keeping local residents informed about their town government. NCTV79’s Robert Doran says “This decision will be a temporary inconvenience for the local stations and our viewers while we adjust to the new channel. We are disappointed by this decision, but there is nothing we can do to change Altice’s mind about this move.”

NCTV79 also has a website, nctv79.org where meeting videos are live-streamed and are archived for on-demand viewing, as well as YouTube pages where you can watch the station’s coverage. Those streaming and on-demand sites are unaffected by the Altice move. Live town meetings are also available via Zoom. Links to join are posted on the town website at newcanaan.info.

For over 30 years NCTV79 has been New Canaan’s dedicated television station for government, community, and arts & cultural programming. Our focus is everything New Canaan. We cover Government meetings in real-time so that you can be part of what’s happening. From live concerts to plays and interviews with our neighbors, NCTV79 celebrates all that New Canaan has to offer. Have an idea for a new program?
