If you find a tick on yourself or a family member, our Health Department can help identify it and determine whether it carries certain tick-borne diseases!

To submit a tick for testing:
âś…Place the tick in a sealed Ziploc bag or other small sealed container
âś…Bring it to the Health Department located at 77 Main Street
❎Do not place the tick on tape
❎Do not put the tick in alcohol or any other liquid

Taking these simple steps help ensure the tick can be properly tested.

For more information about tick testing, please contact our office.

Tick season is here and symptoms of tick-borne illnesses can appear days or even weeks after a bite. 🕷️

Watch for:
• Fever or chills
• Headache
• Fatigue
• Muscle or joint aches
• Swollen lymph nodes
• Rash - including a possible “bull’s-eye” rash

Some tick-borne diseases can become serious if not treated early. If you develop symptoms after spending time outdoors, contact your healthcare provider.

Protect yourself by:
âś” Using EPA-registered insect repellent
âś” Wearing long sleeves and pants in wooded/grassy areas
âś” Checking yourself, children, and pets for ticks
âś” Showering soon after outdoor activities

The New Canaan Health Department is currently participating in the Region 1 Point of Dispensing (POD) Full-Scale Exercise in Westport.

This exercise is helping ensure we are prepared to respond quickly and effectively during public health emergencies, including large-scale vaccination or medication distribution efforts.

A comprehensive well water test, normally valued at $350, is available for $235 (cash or check). Tests include coliform bacteria, lead, arsenic, uranium, nitrates, sodium, chloride, fluoride, pH, hardness, sulfate, turbidity, iron, and manganese.
