NJPIRG Student Chapters

NJPIRG Student Chapters NJPIRG Students is the largest student-run non-profit in the state. Want change? We train student act Together we can make change happen. It's a good thing, too.

Our generation has some big challenges to tackle - from global warming to the rising cost of college, from homelessness to our collapsing health care system. It won't be easy, but by acting together we can find solutions. That's where we come in. Here at NJPIRG Student Chapters, we organize college students to solve some of the world's most pressing public interest problems. NJPIRG Student Chapter

s is an independent statewide student organization that works on issues like environmental protection, consumer protection, and hunger and homelessness. For nearly 35 years students with their campus PIRG chapters have been making a real difference in people's lives and winning concrete changes to build a better world. We give students the skills and opportunity to practice effective citizenship. Both here on campus and out in the world, we mobilize students to investigate big social problems, come up with practical solutions, convince the media and public to pay attention, and get decision-makers to act.

Huge win for textbook affordability!!šŸ“ššŸŽ‰Our student government, RUSA (Rutgers University Student Assembly) officially signed a resolution supporting open and affordable textbooks, helping to lower students’ course material costs!

We are so proud to see our campus community pushing for change and making education more accessible for everyone, and are hopeful that this resolution brings more awareness to campus students and faculty! We delivered this resolution to members of congress this week to show student support for affordable textbooks.

Huge thank you to .sbp for authoring this resolution.

Students have struggled to pay the high cost of textbooks and other course materials for decades. Last fall, we collected 4000 surveys from students at 110 colleges and universities nationwide, and found that although the textbook market has radically changed in the digital age, those financial struggles remain the same.

EVENT RECAP: NJPIRG’s New Voters Project attended the Students Learn Students Vote conference in Maryland this past week! If you were tuned into our stories you saw the entire trip, but here are some key moments! The conference was a great way to meet tons of students, educators, and non-profit organizations that are dedicated to increasing youth participation in the democratic process! We can’t wait to see what the future holds for NVP!
