💛 THEY’RE COUNTING ON YOU, PART 2

We started with their voices. Now, we’re sharing the rest of their message.

At Convocation, our staff heard directly from four CSDNB students about what they need from the adults who show up for them every day, and why that work matters.

In Part 2 of “They’re Counting on You,” Arielle from Chamberlain Elementary School, Fox from Lincoln Elementary School, Kaylisse from Brookside School, and Abdiel from Satellite Careers Academy remind us just how much a teacher, mentor, coach, paraeducator, counselor, secretary, custodian, or any caring adult can mean in the life of a student.

Sometimes it’s encouragement. Sometimes it’s a challenge. Sometimes it’s simply having someone who sees you, believes in you, and refuses to give up on you.

As we begin another year together, their message is one worth carrying with us: Our students are watching. They’re listening. They’re learning. And they’re counting on us. 💛

🚒 Is your student interested in a career in firefighting? Want to know what it takes to become one? The Consolidated School District of New Britain is excited to partner with the New Britain Fire Department to offer a Family Field Trip for 8th-12th grade students AND their parents/guardians in our district.

The New Britain Fire Department is dedicated to protecting and preserving life, property, and the environment, and this experience will give families a unique behind-the-scenes look at their important work.

🚒 Take a guided tour of the fire station and training facility
👩‍🚒 Meet professionals from various departments and ask questions about their careers
🎤 Hear remarks from Dr. Anthony Gasper, Superintendent of Schools, and Raul Ortiz, Fire Chief

💛 At this year’s CSDNB Staff Convocation, some of the most powerful words our staff heard didn’t come from the stage. They came from our students.

Before we welcomed students back for a new school year, we wanted our staff to hear directly from the people at the heart of everything we do.

🎥 “They’re Counting on You," Part 1, features Arielle from Chamberlain Elementary School, Fox from Lincoln Elementary School, Kaylisse from Brookside School, and Abdiel from Satellite Careers Academy.

Their message is a powerful reminder of the impact the adults in our schools can have, sometimes in ways they may never fully realize. Our students are counting on us to challenge them. To encourage them. To believe in them. To notice them. To help them discover what they’re capable of.

It was an emotional and meaningful way to begin Convocation and send our staff into a new school year focused on what matters most: our students and the difference we can make in their lives every single day.

Great work happens across CSDNB every single day, often in moments that don’t come with a spotlight.

Throughout the 2025–2026 school year, members of our school community nominated students, parents, and staff members who went above and beyond, stepped up when it mattered, made a difference for a student or family, or simply demonstrated what it means to serve our community with care and commitment.

At our annual Staff Convocation, we had the opportunity to bring together and recognize our 2025–2026 Superintendent’s Challenge Coin recipients. Please join us in celebrating these incredible members of the CSDNB community and the many different ways they make New Britain a better place to learn, work, and grow.

And as we begin a new school year, we know there are countless more stories waiting to be told. We look forward to recognizing even more of the great work happening throughout our schools in 2026–2027.

👏 Congratulations to all of our Superintendent’s Challenge Coin recipients. Thank you for being a beacon for our students, colleagues, and community.

What a first day at Holmes Elementary School! Yesterday, our Holmes Dragons officially kicked off the 2026–2027 school year in their new home!

One of our favorite parts of the morning was seeing the incredible support surrounding our students. A HUGE shout-out to the many volunteers who gave their time to welcome students with cheers, smiles, and plenty of high-fives! 🙌

And Holmes wasn't alone! Across CSDNB, volunteers from organizations throughout New Britain lined up outside our schools to cheer on students and staff as they began a new year. That's New Britain. A community that shows up for one another, supports one another, and takes tremendous pride in this place we all call home. Our students could feel that support from the moment they walked through the doors.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the first day special!

Yesterday, Slade Middle School officially kicked off the 2026–2027 school year, and our Stallions came through the doors ready for a great year ahead!
