Crisis Center of Comal County

Crisis Center of Comal County Our mission is to embrace survivors of abuse and trauma and empower them to positively change the trajectory of their lives.

The Crisis Center of Comal County was founded in 1986 as the Comal County Women's Center. Numerous local citizens began a grassroots effort to develop an agency that would address the needs of those experiencing domestic violence. In the beginning, the agency consisted of several volunteers who provided information and referral to other service providers in the area. As time passed and grant fundi

ng was obtained, the agency grew to include several paid staff and an emergency shelter. During those first years many of the agency’s clients also required sexual assault services. As a result, the center developed a sexual assault crisis services program to serve Comal County. A capital campaign fund completed in 1994 funded a six-bedroom full service emergency shelter. Since that time the staff has grown and includes shelter staff, licensed counselors, legal advocates, and crisis response staff members. In 2000 the shelter was expanded to 9 bedrooms and built new office space to provide additional services. As the number of clients increased the agency began to provide more services to men. As a result the agency name was changed to The Crisis Center of Comal County. In 2020, the agency served more than 1,526 victims, and expanded the shelter space to now accommodate 80 clients. The Administration team, counseling, legal and prevention services relocated to across the street at 1528 Common.

What an incredible evening. 💜

Tonight, we welcomed supporters, volunteers, donors, and community partners to our Sip & See Open House to celebrate the remarkable transformation that took place inside our new shelter this week.

Over the past several days, dozens of caring community members rolled up their sleeves and poured their hearts into creating warm, welcoming spaces for the survivors and children who will one day stay here. Thanks to their vision, creativity, and generosity, empty rooms have been transformed into places that feel safe, comforting, and full of possibility.

As guests toured the shelter tonight, there was a palpable sense of pride, excitement, and gratitude throughout the building. Every room tells a story of kindness. Every thoughtful touch reflects a community that believes no one should face crisis alone.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who donated items, sponsored rooms, volunteered their time, and helped bring this project to life. Your compassion can be seen in every corner of this shelter, and its impact will be felt for years to come.

Tonight was a celebration of much more than a building—it was a celebration of a community coming together to create something truly meaningful.

Thank you for helping us build a place of safety, healing, and hope. 💜

💙 A Heartfelt Thank You to Living Spaces 💙

Some gifts provide comfort. Some provide safety. This gift does both.

The Crisis Center of Comal County would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Living Spaces for their incredible donation of 98 mattresses for our new shelter.

Because of this generous gift, survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and homelessness who walk through our doors will have something many have gone without for far too long—a safe, comfortable place to rest.

A mattress may seem like a simple thing, but for someone starting over after trauma, it represents dignity, peace, and the opportunity to sleep without fear.

As we prepare to open our new 90-bed shelter, community partners like Living Spaces are helping transform a building into a place of healing and hope. Their generosity will impact hundreds of individuals and families for years to come.

Thank you, Living Spaces, for helping us create a space where survivors can rest, recover, and begin again. 💙

Walking through our new shelter and seeing spaces transformed into comfort, dignity, and hope fills us with gratitude.

This week, our community is decorating bedrooms and family suites for the survivors and children who will one day call this shelter home. Every lamp, blanket, piece of artwork, and thoughtful detail reflects a simple truth: our community cares.

The generosity we’ve witnessed is extraordinary. Future residents may never know the names behind these gifts, but they will feel the love, safety, and compassion in every room.

To every donor, sponsor, volunteer, and community member: thank you. You are creating more than a shelter—you are creating a place where healing begins.

❤️ From all of us at the Crisis Center of Comal County, thank you for making hope a reality.

A big thank you to The GVTC Foundation for selecting the Crisis Center of Comal County as a recipient of a $2,500 sponsorship in support of our Silver Spur Soirée.

We were honored to attend this morning’s award breakfast and celebrate alongside so many incredible organizations doing meaningful work throughout our community.

This year, The GVTC Foundation awarded an amazing $678,430 back into the community. We are so grateful to be included in that impact and thankful for GVTC’s continued commitment to making our region stronger, kinder, and more connected.

Thank you, GVTC, for helping us continue our mission of embracing survivors of crisis and trauma and empowering them to positively change the trajectory of their lives. 💙
