Democratic Women of Comal County The Democratic Women of Comal County Texas unites women interested in progressive political change

Democratic Women of Comal County (DWCC) is a group of progressives, independents, and Democrats focused on electing Democrats to local offices and positions in Texas. We present and discuss local, state, and national issues; organize voter registration events; and provide candidate forums for local elective offices. DWCC raises funds for student scholarships, voter education, causes, and candidates that support the values and work of the Democratic Party. "Civility is claiming, and caring for one's own identity, needs, and beliefs, without degrading someone else's in the process."

THIS IS HUGE: One of Ken Paxton’s own former top law-enforcement officials is now endorsing James Talarico for U.S. Senate.

Yes, you read that correctly.

David Maxwell — who served as Director of Law Enforcement in the Texas Attorney General’s Office under Ken Paxton for nearly a DECADE — has thrown his support behind the Democrat running against his former boss.

And Maxwell isn’t some random political operative.

He spent nearly 50 YEARS in Texas law enforcement.

He served as a Texas Ranger. He was a sergeant with the Texas Department of Public Safety. And eventually, he became one of the highest-ranking law-enforcement officials inside Paxton’s own office.

Now he’s backing James Talarico.

That alone makes this one of the more remarkable endorsements of the Texas Senate campaign.

But there’s even more history here.

Maxwell was one of the senior officials who reported Paxton to the FBI in 2020, alleging that Paxton had improperly used the power of the attorney general’s office to benefit political donor Nate Paul.

Maxwell and several other officials were later fired and filed a whistleblower lawsuit.

A Texas judge eventually ordered the state to pay the whistleblowers $6.6 million. Paxton has not admitted wrongdoing, and investigations connected to the allegations were closed without action.

Maxwell also testified during Paxton’s 2023 impeachment trial, which ended with the Texas Senate acquitting Paxton.

And now, three years later, Maxwell is stepping directly into Paxton’s U.S. Senate race by endorsing James Talarico.

A man who spent years running law enforcement inside Ken Paxton’s own office is now publicly supporting the Democrat running against him.

Texas politics just got even more interesting.

Labor Day began as a tribute to the workers who built this country, and to their power, organized and exercised together, to shape the laws that govern their lives. That's democracy in action: people showing up, speaking up, and using their collective voice to create change.

Today, we honor that legacy. Every vote is one more way we carry it forward.

Families are struggling to survive. We can’t wait any longer to

Every legislative session, I’ve filed a bill to raise the minimum wage. When I’m Lt. Governor, those bills will get a vote. And we’ll make sure everyone is making a living wage — regardless of industry, tips, or disability.

Texas works because Texans do. Proud to stand with labor and the Texans who built this state. Together, we’ll make the American Dream real again.

Happy Labor Day, Texas!

Texans should be able to keep more of their hard-earned money.

It’s time for meaningful property tax relief.
