June is National Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Month. PTSD is a mental health disorder that develops when a person has experienced or witnessed a scary, shocking, terrifying, or dangerous event. That’s why this month we’re proud to spotlight Lionheart Walks!
Lionheart Walks is a free group that meets every Tuesday Night as well as on the 22nd of every month to walk together. The date carries deep meaning — it represents the 22 veteran lives lost every day to the devastating effects of mental illness or PTSD. From anxiety and depression to su***de and suicidal ideation, veterans face a heightened risk for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder due to the traumatic events they have seen or experienced.
Jeysson Gomez, the founder of Lionheart Walks, is a veteran who deeply understands the struggles PTSD and mental illness places on veterans and has decided to build a community of support. Lionheart Walks was created to raise awareness for mental health and prevent veteran and first responder su***de.
No matter when or where the veteran has served, there is hope and support for you.
