Lawrence W. Spradley New Braunfels City Council-District 4 Lawrence W. Spradley City Councilman District 4 of New Braunfels, TX seating on May 24, 2021 He graduated from Alvin High School, in Alvin, Texas.

Spradley- City Council District 4
Born Texan in Freeport, Texas in 1968. in 1988 and married his beautiful high school sweetheart, Kristy, the very next day. They have now been married for 33 years. He joined the US Army in 1988 and left Texas. He was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Div. From 1988-1996, West Point New York, Hawaii, Alaska, Wisconsin and then returning to Texas after serving 27 years

, never giving up his Texas residency. Lawrence retired from the US Army as a Sergeant First Class E7 Army Engineer (disabled combat veteran) and moved to New Braunfels in July 2015. He has worked for the Alamo Council of Governments as the Alamo Reginal Transit (ART) Supervisor for this area and most recently Halliburton Oil Field Service Company in south San Antonio as Field Associate. Lawrence served on the Zoning Board of Adjustments (ZBA)and as a past board member for Community Development Advisory Committee (CDAC). Lawrence has an Associate’s degree of Arts General Studies and a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration. Lawrence and his wife have five sons, three of whom have followed in his footstep with the military. One served in the US Army Infantry and is now in college at Texas State, one served in Texas National Guard for 4 years and one is currently undergoing rigorous Special Forces Green Beret Training at Fort Bragg, NC. Lawrence & Kristy have 3 grandsons. With nothing but boys, they are hoping for a granddaughter soon. When asked why he chose New Braunfels as his final home, this is what Lawrence had to say:
“When I retired, we could have moved anywhere. We chose New Braunfels because as kids, both our families made the trip here to float the rivers. We have always loved this place. So why not New Braunfels? We could not think of any reason to not move here. I truly adore New Braunfels and call it the Shining City on the River. Most visitors think we are lucky to live here and I could not agree more. My only goal is to help make our home better!”

Lawrence was asked to outline his focus points for his district and the following are what he hopes to improve with the City for District 4:
Responsible Growth: There are some important issues facing our community in District 4 such as growth and we need to ensure responsible growth. Responsible growth is growing deliberately and taking into account accessible walking paths, bike trails, road upgrades, parks, and spaces for kids to be kids. New Braunfels growth has been rapid. Our district is very slow at keeping up. Many streets are sub-standard and resemble nothing more than a paved trail. There are no sidewalks and no new amenities. Additionally, growth and attraction of new business are essential, but within an acceptable constraint. I do not support another new truck stop so close to the other two. Money (Fiscal Accountability): My years in the Army have taught me to be very conservative with money. I will be looking at ways to pay for additional supplies or projects with limited funding. I think outside of the box for solutions that give 80% of higher acceptable results. I am positive looking into the details with each project, there will be a dollar saved here and a dollar saved there. When enough of the dollars are combined, maybe a new park bench could be bought, or something fixed or painted. I support a balanced budget approach to spending. Taxpayer’s money is exactly that. I will spend it wisely. Public Service: I will serve the community and our people with great pride and integrity. I will remain honest and fair in all city matters but remain loyal to those of whom I serve-The People in District 4. I have time on my side. I am happily retired from the US Army. We have an “at home” business, and I do not report to a boss or have deadlines to meet leaving time to pay particular attention to city business and District 4 issues. In the Army, Lawrence won Sergeant of the Year and the Sturgis Medal. These two awards signify excellence above and beyond typical peers. I will keep this excellence with my role in the Shining City on the River, our home, New Braunfels, Texas.

After looking at all the data the both Comal & Guadalupe County unless I have counted wrong, there were a total of 7154 votes cast.
Again, I may have miscalculated and all official numbers come from both Comal and Guadalupe County Elections Office.

Eighty-two years ago, on June 6, 1944 in the darkness before dawn, paratroopers and gliders of the 82nd Airborne Division took part in one of the most consequential operations in all military history.

Long before the first landing craft reached the beaches of Normandy, young American soldiers boarded aircraft fully aware that many would not return. They descended into the uncertainty of occupied France, dispersed by enemy fire and the cover of darkness, yet they remained steadfast in their mission. Their objective was clear, to secure critical terrain, disrupt German defenses, and facilitate the success of the largest amphibious invasion ever in the history of the world.

The men (only men back then) of the 82nd Airborne Division were among the very first Allied forces to engage the Germans on D-Day. Operating well behind enemy lines, isolated and heavily outnumbered, they demonstrated extraordinary courage, initiative, and a clear resolve. The actions of these Airborne Soldiers played a crucial role in the success of the Allied invasion and the eventual liberation of all of Europe. Without these Paratroopers WWII may have ended differently.

As an eight year veteran of the 82nd Airborne, I hold a very deep & profound respect for those who wore the All American patch long, long before me. The sacrifice established a legacy of excellence, resilience, and selfless service that continues to inspire generations of paratroopers, even today. As recently as last month the 82d Airborne Soldiers were asked yet again to confront the evils of this world confronting Iran.

Today, I remember those who never returned home. Many were left in graves with white tombstones in Normandy France that you can visit today.

I ask that we all honor all of those who endured this hardship of war 82 years ago and for those that lived & carried its burdens throughout their lifetime.

May we also reaffirm our commitment to preserving the Freedoms for which they fought to secure and preserve.

“All the way”

Airborne!

“What Listening looks like”

I’m proud of the fact that I am the first New Braunfels City Council member to create a professional page. I also share my personal cell phone so residents can reach me directly: 830-822-8704.
Staying easy to contact is important to me and the eyes in the district are crucial to our district’s success.

Facebook isn’t required for City Council Members, but I created this page to share timely information, provide updates, and give District 4 residents another direct way to stay informed and connected with their local representative, me.

There’s been a repeated narrative that some of us on Council “don’t listen to citizens.” I can only speak for myself, but I really don’t believe that’s true at all.

I must mention that a small number of individuals consistently leave negative, mean, rude, or aggressive comments on nearly every post, No one should measure real public input by social media activity. I rarely even read the comments. Facebook is a worldwide platform with no practical way to verify whether someone is a resident, a resident of District 4, or even using their real identity. Some of these comments come from outside the City of New Braunfels or even Texas. They do not have any real interest in our city and Influence from afar for only one purpose. That’s why I don’t let online comments determine how I try to measure actual citizen concerns.

Real listening is exactly this:

1) Answering phone calls from residents
2) Reading and responding to texts and emails
3) Reviewing comments from those who receive public hearing notices
4) Paying close attention to what people say at City Council meetings, even when their views differ from mine.

Every week for the past five years, I’ve made time to hear directly from residents about their concerns, ideas, and priorities for District 4. I post about every single City Council meeting & I listen respectfully. I’m even willing to rethink my position when presented with new relevant information. Don’t expect for every conversation to lead to agreements and that should be okay.
Leadership means gathering the facts, considering different perspectives, and making decisions that serve the best interests of our entire city.

I still remain fully committed to being accessible, responsive, and engaged with the people whom I serve, regardless of what may appear on Facebook. Mean, rude or crude comments don’t distract me from that mission #1.

You can always reach me by phone, text, Facebook message, email, or in person whether you ask for a one on one meeting or simply run into me around town. And even when I’m on vacation!
Try it!

This is what listening is to me.
