"A judge shall not initiate, permit, or consider ex parte communications or other communications made to the judge outside the presence of the parties between the judge and a party, an attorney, a guardian or attorney ad litem, an alternative dispute resolution neutral, or any other court appointee concerning the merits of a pending or impending judicial proceeding." So, don't try to contact the Judge about a case. (1) I tend to ignore all private messages, but if I do see it I'll be required to send it to all the parties and attorneys involved and then not consider anything in the message as part of the case. So...just don't do it. If you have something to say to the judge it needs to be in OPEN COURT, in front of EVERYONE, under the rules of procedure applicable to the case.

It doesn't matter if they say they are from the Sheriff's Department, the Court, the IRS or the FBI. If they ask for money, gift cards, bitcoins, or bank accounts, it's a scam!

Another heads up about an ongoing jury duty scam just seems to keep making the rounds.

The callers are claiming they’re calling from the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office and saying there’s a warrant for your arrest because you didn’t respond to a jury summons. They may even drop the name of a real judge to make it sound official.

It’s all a scam. Law enforcement and courts do not handle jury issues or arrest warrants this way, and they won’t call demanding payment (usually in gift cards) or your personal information.

If you get one of these calls, just hang up.

If you’re worried you may have actually missed jury duty or a court date, contact the court clerk directly using the official phone number - not one provided by the caller.

Please report the call, text, or email to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov. Reporting helps investigators track these scams and protect others in our community.
