๐Ÿš—โ˜€๏ธ Hitting the road this summer? Your safety starts before you even leave the driveway!

Before you pack up and head out on your next vacation, take a few minutes to give your vehicle a quick safety once-over. A safe car is a road-ready car!

Before hitting the road, make sure to check:
Tires: Check the air pressure and tread depth (don't forget to inspect your spare tire too!).
Brakes: Listen for any unusual squealing or grinding, and make sure they are responsive.
Fluids: Top off your oil, coolant, and windshield wiper fluid so your engine stays happy in the summer heat.

Whether you are heading to the beach, the mountains, or just out for a weekend getaway, pack your patience, avoid distractions, and always buckle up!

Before you leave, we also highly recommend checking DriveNC.gov for local traffic updates and construction zones.

Safe travels from all of us here at the City of New Bern Police Department!

โ˜€๏ธ Keep Your Summer Safe, New Bern! ๐Ÿ”’

As we enjoy the beautiful summer weather here in Coastal Carolina, the New Bern Police Department wants to remind everyone to keep firearm safety a top priority. Whether you are at home, traveling, or enjoying the great outdoors, responsible gun ownership helps protect our community.

Stay Prepared with These Summer Safety Tips:
Secure & Store: Always store fi****ms in a locked safe, cabinet, or use a secure locking device when not in use. Store ammunition separately.
Prevent Tragedies: With kids out of school, ensure curious hands cannot access fi****ms. Double-check your locks before heading out for a summer getaway!
Educate Everyone: Have age-appropriate conversations with your children about what to do if they ever find a gun:
Stop, Don't Touch, Leave the Area, and Tell an Adult.
Travel Responsibly: If you are traveling with a firearm, know the laws of your destination and make sure it is locked safely out of sight in your vehicle.

Let's work together to make this a safe and fun summer for everyone in our neighborhoods!

Have a question about firearm safety or need a gun lock?
Reach out to the NBPD Non-Emergency Line at (252) 633-2020 or visit us at the New Bern Police Department, 601 George Street.

If you see suspicious activity in your area, please report it! You can always reach out to dispatch at (252) 633-2020 or submit an anonymous tip using our Craven County Crime Stoppers. Phone (252)633-5141 Web submission p3tips.com/986

๐Ÿšจ Teen Driver Alert: Let's keep our roads safe! ๐Ÿš—

The keys are in their hands, but your guidance sets the rules. With more teens on the road, let's work together to build smart habits before they take the wheel.

Parents & Teens: Review These Core Rules:
Put the phone away: Driving requires 100% focus. No texting, no scrolling, no exceptions.
Limit passengers: Extra friends mean extra distractions. Stick to the state's passenger limits.
Buckle up: It is the simplest and most effective way to protect yourself and others on the road.
Slow down: Observe all speed limits. Inexperience and speeding are a dangerous mix.

Inexperience and distractions are among the most common factors in teen collisions. A quick conversation today can keep their journeyโ€”and our New Bern communityโ€”safe tomorrow.

Review North Carolina's rules for young drivers via the NCDOT Graduated Driver Licensing program to ensure your teen is following all requirements.
