Speaker Tim Moore announced committee assignments for the current session yesterday and from the looks of things Rep. Steve Tyson will be very busy but this is great news for Craven County as we will have a voice on the influential House Rules committee and as Chairman on both Finance and Transportation in addition to the 5 other committees Rep. Tyson will serve on.

I will be serving on 8 committees this year. It is going to be a busy year and I expect to be burning the midnight oil often.

I look forward to working hard for the citizens of the great county of Craven.

The Police Benevolent Association AND the Fraternal Order of Police have both endorsed Alderman Jeffrey Odham to become the City of New Bern’s next mayor despite the fact that his opponent is the former Chief of the New Bern Police Department. This speaks volumes - New Bern needs a leader who values law enforcement and appreciates the men and women who serve. Vote Jeffrey Odham for Mayor in the runoff election taking place now.

Early voting is underway at the Board of Elections on the corner of Broad and Craven Streets downtown and goes through Saturday, July 23 from 8am - 7:30pm on weekdays and Saturday, July 23 from 8am - 3pm. Election Day is Tuesday July 26.

Police association endorses Odham over former police chief for mayor

Good morning! Today, Tuesday May 17 is Election Day for the 2022 Republican Primary!

If you haven’t already early voted, be sure to go vote TODAY at your regular polling place between 6:30am and 7:30pm.

For information on your polling location and to pull a sample ballot, enter your information on the NC Board of Elections website here: https://vt.ncsbe.gov/RegLkup/

Please remember that if you live within the City of New Bern, the municipal election for Mayor and Board of Aldermen is the final election - not simply a primary. Party affiliation of those candidates will not be listed on the ballot, but the Republican candidates are as follows:

Mayor: Jeffrey Odham
Ward 1: Sabrina Bengel
Ward 2: Jennell Reddick
Ward 6: Bob Brinson or Travis Oakley

Search for voter details, including jurisdictions, polling place, sample ballot when available, absentee ballot information, and voter history.

Oral arguments on the redistricting case are scheduled for February 2. Here is an update on how Democrats Gov. Roy Cooper and AG Josh Stein are urging the Democrat majority Supreme Court to continue to take unprecedented steps in its involvement with the maps.

Gov. Roy Cooper and N.C. Attorney General Josh Stein want the state Supreme Court to throw out new statewide election maps. They’ve outlined a plan that would help the court draw new maps without legislative input. Cooper and Stein filed a motion and friend-of-the-court brief late Friday. They urg...

The club heard a wonderful presentation Saturday from Men's Club member and current Craven County Republicans Chairman Bob Brinson on the recent changes to Craven County's congressional, state legislative, county commissioner, board of education, and New Bern aldermen districts. Reminder that the Craven County executive committee votes this Thursday to select a replacement party chair and first vice chair as Chairman Brinson vacates the chairmanship to run for City of New Bern Alderman.

The club also voted to host this year's Craven GOP Christmas party next month in lieu of a December meeting. The party will be a potluck and all Republicans in Craven County and beyond are invited. Stay tuned and keep an eye on your email for details.
