The burn ban for Craven County was lifted on May 8th.
Open burning is now permitted again; however, we still encourage everyone to use caution and burn responsibly. Please keep a water source nearby, avoid burning during windy conditions, and never leave a fire unattended.

As always, if a fire gets out of control, call 911 immediately. Stay safe 🚒

Thursday night, our members conducted hands on training utilizing our newly constructed roof ventilation prop.

Crews focused on ladder placement, roof operations, and executing vertical ventilation using chainsaws, K12 rescue saws, and hand tools. Emphasis was placed on proper technique, coordination, and maintaining a safe operating environment while performing realistic roof cuts.

This prop allows us to train under conditions that closely mirror what we encounter on the fireground, building proficiency, confidence, and teamwork.

Ongoing training like this ensures we remain prepared to serve and protect our community when it matters most.

U.S. Forest Service is conducting a controlled burn today, March 6, 2026, in Craven County on the Croatan Ranger District. The burn is planned for approximately 1,113 acres near Sunset Drive and Greenfield Heights Boulevard in the City of Havelock, about 8 miles south of the Croatan Ranger District Office.
