Twenty-five years ago, our nation was forever changed.

Today, we remember the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001, including 343 members of the FDNY, 37 members of the Port Authority Police Department, and 23 members of the NYPD.

We remember the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, dispatchers, military members, and countless civilians who answered the call in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

For many, “Never Forget” is more than a phrase. It is a promise to remember those who were lost, those who ran toward danger, and those whose lives were forever changed.

We will never forget.

Why firefighters stay low

We recently added this visual training aid at the station to help demonstrate how dramatically conditions can change with height during a structure fire.

As heat and smoke rise, temperatures increase, oxygen levels decrease, and toxic gases such as carbon monoxide can become much more concentrated. Keeping a victim’s airway as low as practical can significantly improve survivability while crews work to remove them from the building.

This project was inspired by the “Victim Stick” concept shared by South Metro Fire Rescue, along with research conducted by the UL Fire Safety Research Institute (FSRI).

Fire safety reminder: If you encounter smoke while escaping a fire, stay low, get outside quickly, and stay outside. Close doors behind you when possible

⭐️ ANIMAL RESCUE ⭐️

At approximately 0430 this morning, Township Six was dispatched, along with Cherry Point and Havelock Fire, to the 200 block of Belltown Road for a reported garage fire. During dispatch, units were advised that approximately three dogs and 20 cats were inside the residence.

Havelock Fire units arrived on scene, located the fire, and kept it contained to a dryer, resulting in minimal damage to the house. Township Six assisted Havelock Fire and Cherry Point with locating and removing approximately 15 cats and ventilating the structure.

Township Six operated on scene for approximately one hour before being released by Havelock Fire. Township Six responded with nine personnel and three apparatus.

⭐️NEW LEADERSHIP⭐️

Tonight during our September business meeting two new chief officers were elected and installed. Assistant Chief Jason Cloer was installed as Fire Chief and Lieutenant Bradley Birchfield was installed as Assistant Chief. Both of these officers are well deserving of these positions and they are looking forward to serving the community and the firefighters in their new roles. Congratulations to the new chief officers

Township Six Fire Department was proud to host national night out along with the Craven County Sheriffs Office, a lot of great community interactions and getting to know the people we serve along with them getting to know us. Thank you Craven County Sheriff's Office we may wear different badges but we are one team!

🔥WORKING FIRE🔥

At approximately 0530 on August 24 Township Six Fire Department was dispatched mutual aid with Havelock Fire Rescue along side Cherry Point FD and Newport FD to the 700 block of East Main Street for a commercial structure fire. Havelock units arrived on scene confirmed the working fire and began offensive fire attack. Units worked for approximately an hour before Newport Fire was requested for manpower. Due to deteriorating fire conditions and building construction fire attack was switched from offensive to defensive. Firefighters from Township Six operated for approximately 4 hours before being released.
