💊 Medication Disposal Now Available in the Town of New Berlin.
The Town of New Berlin – Office Building is now an official medication disposal location.

🕘 Hours:
Monday – Thursday
9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

📅 Additional Availability:
By appointment through the New Berlin Police Department

✅ Accepted Items:
• Prescription medications (pills, capsules, and liquids)
• Over-the-counter (OTC) medications (pain relievers, cold medicine, etc.)
• Pet medications
• Ointments, creams, and lotions

🚫 Not Accepted:
• Sharps or needles
• Illegal drugs or hazardous waste
• Medical devices / aerosol cans
• Radioactive materials

🔒 Important Tips Before Dropping Off:
• Keep medications in original packaging when possible.
• If not, place pills in a sealed plastic bag.
• Mark out or remove personal information on prescription labels before disposal.
Proper disposal helps keep our community safe and our environment clean.

🚨We have been asked how to become a police officer. Here is the process:

Become a Police Officer – New York State

Minimum Qualifications
To be eligible for appointment as a Police Officer in New York State, candidates must:

*Be a U.S. citizen
*Be at least 19 years old on or before the written exam
*Be 20 years old at time of appointment
*Apply before your 42nd birthday
The maximum age limit may be extended by one year for each year of full-time active military duty, up to a maximum of 7 years
*Possess a valid New York State driver’s license
*Hold a high school diploma or GED
*All candidates must successfully complete each phase of the hiring process.

Hiring Process
Each step must be passed before advancing:

*Civil Service Written Exam
Tests memory, observation, and logical reasoning.
Passing candidates are placed on an eligibility list.
*Physical Ability Test (PAT)
Evaluates strength, agility, and overall fitness.
*Medical & Psychological Evaluations
Includes comprehensive medical screening and drug testing.
*Background Investigation
Thorough review of personal, employment, and criminal history.
*In-Person Interview
*Conditional Offer of Employment

Police Academy Training
*26-week Police Academy
*12-week Field Training Program

Lateral/Transfer Officers
*May follow an alternate process and may not be required to complete the full Police Academy.

Phase One / Pre-Employment Candidates
*Pre-employment candidates follow a similar process but only need to complete any academy training not included in the pre-employment program and attend the remaining courses, commonly referred as (Phase II) academy.

Timeline
*The hiring process typically takes 10–18 months from exam to appointment.

New Berlin DCO: Pet owners are urged to limit outdoor exposure for dogs, particularly smaller breeds, puppies, and senior animals, which are more vulnerable to extreme cold.
Although some breeds tolerate cold weather better, extended exposure can still be dangerous.

Snow showers are expected, with heavy snow likely on Sunday.

Parking Reminder:
From November 15 through April 15, parking is prohibited on all highways within the Town of New Berlin—no exceptions during snow events.

Please help keep our snowplow operators and travelers safe by keeping vehicles off roadways and reducing the risk of accidents. Vehicles parked in violation may be towed at the owner’s expense.

Residents are encouraged to be prepared, check on neighbors, and ensure pets are not left outside during the storm.
