Yesterday September 13th, 2026, at approximately 1820 hours New Bedford Police Communications center received a call for an elderly male who was actively choking.

New Bedford EMS Medic 2 was dispatched along with New Bedford Fire Department and New Bedford Police Department. EMT Medeiros, Paramedic Touron and Paramedic Desrosiers arrived to find a male with an airway obstruction who was quickly losing his ability to breathe. Due to the teamwork of all involved and quick thinking by our EMS Providers, Paramedic Touron was able to clear the obstruction utilizing a direct visual approach and the Magill Forceps. Upon arrival at the Hospital the patient was awake and able to communicate with EMS and Hospital staff.

Paramedics and EMTs go through rigorous training on airway throughout their initial training and every year thereafter to keep up with the skills that are not often used but matter the most when seconds count.

Thanks to the quick actions of EMT Medeiros, Paramedic Touron, Paramedic Desrosiers and New Bedford Fire Engine Company 6 there is no doubt that a life was saved!

Today we pause to remember the events that happened twenty-five years ago. A day where time stood still for our nation, as many watched the events unfold.

On September 11th, 2001, first responders, public safety and civilians came together, to care for one another and carry out the largest rescue mission in our Nation's history. On that day it did not matter the uniform you wore, the badge on your chest or the patch on your sleeve, it was simply people caring for people.

We honor those who ran towards the danger to help.

We remember those on American Airlines Flight 11, United Airlines Fight 175, American Airlines Flight 77, and United Airlines Flight 93 and the families of those who lives were changed forever.

We pause to remember the 343 Firefighters, 8 EMS providers, 71 Law Enforcement officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice that day in September.

As a nation we promise to never forget.

Over the past few weeks, we have received some positive feedback from the community on our EMS Providers. We want to take a moment to recognize these individuals and share with you the remarks that were submitted.

The first is from a citizen who called 911, EMT Le and EMT Mathews responded and were able to provide the care they are trained to do. Not only did the provide exceptional care, "they were very pleasant and very respectful of my needs. And most important, they took the time to explain everything they were doing"
Of important note, this was the first time EMT Le and EMT Mathews had worked together as partners on the ambulance.

Our second recognition is from the Brooklawn Senior Center, where recently EMT Freitas and EMT Klein visited to speak with the seniors about EMS. After their presentation it was reported, "they answered many questions and were personable, patient and clearly, they care about their work."

New Bedford EMS EMTs and Paramedics go above and beyond the call every day, being patient advocates, providing emergency medical care and meeting every patient's needs to the best of their ability. While this only shows a small portion of that, just know if you need us, we will be there to help in any way we can.

🚨New equipment alert!🚨

Yesterday, New Bedford EMS placed two Sapphire IV Pumps into service. Deployed on our rapid response vehicles these pumps will now allow our paramedics to administer more medications to our patients in their time of need.

Paramedics now have access to Norepinephrine, a life-saving medication which can be given to patients with low blood pressure or who are in shock. In addition to the Norepinephrine our paramedics now have access to IV Nitroglycerin, a medication used for patients with severe difficulty breathing due to congestive heart failure and fluid in the lungs.

We owe a large thanks to our Medical Directors from Southcoast Health Dr. Bivens and Dr. Morris for their help and allowing us through the State's Medical Director Options to carry these medications.

These new medications and equipment again highlight the commitment New Bedford EMS is making to our community. Healthcare is changing and evolving, here at NBEMS we are committed to changing and evolving with it!

Stay tuned New Bedford, this is just the start of new equipment we are training on and getting ready to deploy to the field!

Another year another Feast!

While this picture only shows some of the providers on the feast grounds, there were 23 EMT's and Paramedics in total who provided the EMS stand-by over the four days! This allowed us to have three ambulances and a medical assessment tent on site all weekend.

From Thursday to Sunday, they all assisted feast goers and treated a variety of medical complaints in and around the feast grounds, thankfully nothing to serious.

It always seems the Feast signifies the end of the summer, but there is still more to come for our summer here at New Bedford EMS!

Hey New Bedford!

You know what's coming next week! The 2026 Feast of the Blessed Sacrament, or as you know it "THE FEAST"

New Bedford EMS will be on site providing medical coverage for the duration of the weekend. The weather looks like it's going to be hot and sunny. (subject to change thanks to it being New England)

A couple reminders from New Bedford EMS to you!

- Stay hydrated
- Stay with your group and have a planned meeting location if you get separated
- Plan early for travel in the area of the Feast, traffic backs up are the norm
- If you see something, say something! Safety of this event relies on everyone
- Most importantly have fun, see old friends and make new ones!

While we love seeing everyone in the community, we hope it isn't in the back of one of our ambulances. Come by say hello to our providers and meet the professionals who are out in your community!

See you at the Feast!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the City of Boston this weekend. A difficult weekend for multiple departments.

Boston EMS is mourning the loss of Superintendent-in-Chief John Gill. As well as Boston Fire mourning the LODD of Firefighter Robert Kilduff, Jr.

Both served the City of Boston for years with distinction and honor. Our sincerest condolences are with the City of Boston as they navigate this loss.
