In the early morning hours of Monday, June 22, officers arrested a suspect after assisting the City of Fall River Police Department in locating a wanted man who had allegedly made violent threats, cut off his ankle monitor, and was believed to be in New Bedford.
Throughout the night, officers responded to several locations while attempting to locate the suspect, identified as BRANDON SYLVIA, 30, of ADAMS STREET in New Bedford. SYLVIA was believed to be armed and made threats toward others. Through police investigative efforts, SYLVIA was eventually located in the area of Upton Street.
When officers attempted to stop the vehicle he was operating, SYLVIA struck a police cruiser and fled on foot through nearby properties. Following a brief foot pursuit, officers placed him into custody without further incident.
SYLVIA was charged with operating with a suspended or revoked license, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop or yield, leaving the scene of property damage, resisting arrest, and vandalizing property.
In addition, the Fall River PD has sought charges against SYLVIA, including kidnapping, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, threat to commit a crime, unarmed robbery, trespassing, witness/juror/police intimidation, larceny from a building, stalking, unarmed burglary, and domestic violence-related charges.
