Student-athletes from the MIAA Student Advisory Council took part in the Guard Fit Challenge, testing themselves in an event modeled after the Sprint-Drag-Carry from the Army Fitness Test.

After the challenge, participants competed in an archery dodgeball game, toured military vehicles, and had the opportunity to speak with Massachusetts Army National Guard Soldiers about their service and mission.

The event gave student-athletes a firsthand look at teamwork, leadership, fitness, and the role the Army National Guard has in Massachusetts communities.

The 1st Battalion, 101st Field Artillery Regiment—one of the oldest units in the entire U.S. military—deploys to Kenya for Exercise Justified Accord 26. In this short documentary trailer, go behind the scenes as Massachusetts Army National Guard Soldiers train alongside the Kenya Defence Forces in a dynamic, multinational environment.

From dry fire rehearsals to live fire missions, these Soldiers execute a combined arms live fire exercise integrating artillery, air support, and Kenya Rangers. Operating in extreme heat after coming from a cold-weather environment, the unit adapts quickly—demonstrating resilience, discipline, and interoperability with partner forces.

This training is more than just firepower—it’s about building partnerships, strengthening global readiness, and expanding real-world experience in complex environments.

We want to congratulate and thank Staff Sgt. William Bateson for reenlisting for 6 more years in the Massachusetts Army National Guard. His ceremony took place on a hill top after a successful combined arms live fire in Kenya, Africa during Justified Accord 26 training exercise.

He is a proud Forward Observer with the 1-101st Field Artillery and looking forward to continue to do what he enjoys.
