Summer is officially HERE at Tripp Towers!

We took the party outside today for our annual summer cookout, and what a day it was! Burgers, hot dogs, potato salad, coleslaw, chips, and cake were all enjoyed under beautiful blue skies in the warmth of a perfect summer afternoon.

But the real highlight? The smiles, the music, the laughter, a little dancing and lots of community connection. Days like today remind us that joy doesn't have an age limit!

Elder abuse isn't rare. It's happening right here on the South Coast.

At Friday's Celebration of Seniors, Jennifer Matthews, Director of Protective Services at Bristol Aging and Wellness, shared some sobering numbers: 400 to 500 cases of elder abuse are reported in our area every single month. In April, that was 477 cases. In May, 427.

Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and there's one simple thing you can do right now: save this number.

This is the hotline for reporting elder abuse. Every report is confidential, and your identity is never shared.

The community is the first line of defense, Matthews shared. We rely on you, our community members, to take notice and take action, she said. If you notice something that doesn't seem right, or you're worried that an older adult in your life may be experiencing abuse or neglect, you don't need proof, just a reasonable concern is enough to file a report.

Look out for the seniors in your life. A phone call could change, or save, someone's life.

Access to nutritious meals helps support the health, well-being, and independence of many older adults.

Through Meals on Wheels, healthy meals are delivered directly to community members who may have difficulty shopping, cooking, or preparing food on their own. Beyond nutrition, the program can provide routine, connection, and peace of mind.

Good nutrition plays an important role in helping older adults stay healthy, active, and connected to their communities.

What an incredible day! More than 700 people came out to learn, connect, and have some fun — and we loved every minute of it. From our amazing vendors to our inspiring speakers, today was a reminder of just how strong our community is.

Celebration of Seniors is HERE!

Tomorrow is the big day, and we can’t wait to welcome you for another incredible Celebration of Seniors! Doors open at 8:15 a.m., with breakfast beginning shortly after. Get ready for an inspiring morning featuring an outstanding speaker lineup, with opportunities to connect and plenty of resources for aging well and living independently.

This year, we’ll once again fill every room at White’s of Westport with 70 vendor organizations, plus our main breakfast and stage area. And the weather? ☀️ The forecast is calling for another beautiful, sunny day with plenty of parking waiting for you. Last year, more than 700 people joined us to celebrate, connect, and learn and we’re so excited to do it all again.

To get SHINE help in the New Bedford area, call your local council on aging, or reach out to the regional program for our area at the Middleboro COA at 1-800-231-1155. It's worth the call!
