Pope's Island has nothing to do with the Vatican, but its location is divine! This small island boasts a big marina known for creating a welcoming community for seasonal and transient boaters alike. Operated by the HDC, Pope’s Island Marina sits prominently at the head of the harbor like a jewel in the city’s recreational boating crown. With 206 slips, Pope's Island Marina offers competitive rates with all the services you need.

This Friday, June 12th, The US Army Corps of Engineers will be conducting dive operations on the gates of the hurricane barrier from 7am to 4pm. The width of the 150’ opening will be reduced while the dive support vessel is operating in the channel. To coordinate vessel movement or to obtain current information, use channel 13 VHF.

This beautiful and rare sailboat is what’s known as a Chesapeake Bay Bugeye. Originally designed for dredging oysters in the 1880’s, bugeye construction ceased around the turn of the century with the decline of the oyster industry in the region.

We are looking forward to the opening of Pope's Island Marina this coming Monday, May 4th for the start of the 2020 recreational boating season!
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact the Commonwealth, we are opening Pope's Island Marina with Safety Guidelines that all marina patrons will be expected to follow to ensure the health and safety of all patrons and staff.

Pope's Island Marina Office TEMPORARILY CLOSED

NBPA OFFICES TEMPORARILY CLOSED

In light of the continuing developments of the coronavirus (COVID-19), beginning Tuesday, March 17 through at least Sunday, March 22, the New Bedford Port Authority offices will be closed. Administrative staff will continue working from home and can be reached via email.

If you need immediate assistance, please call the office at 508-961-3000. In the case of an emergency, please call 911.
